Texas vs Texas 8&4 at Basketball

We are making 3s but giving up easy layups. That’s not a recipe that will hold throughout the game.

24-23 us

8 mins left in first half

I don’t understand why we aren’t running the offense through Tre J.

He missed a few early but we gotta ride him.

Our shooting got cold and the ags were getting some lucky rolls of the ball on the rim. Back and forth for a while then even

Tied up at halftime.

Admittedly, I have not watched a game this year. I understand that the Aggies really WANT this game, but what I've seen is

1) Lack of discipline
2) Inability to manage the smallest of fundamentals
3) A bunch of guys with a great future in construction because they have mastered brick throwing.

This was truly pathetic. I never was on the "Terry Train", but I gotta believe there are plenty of seats available.

Agree. Five guys wearing burnt orange were playing one on one, not passing, not running plays, not pick and rolling to the basket. No wonder they took a 20 point drubbing.
Honestly they don’t look coached.
On the other hand, a/m set screens, opening the driving lanes which led to layups and getting to the free throw line.
Terry coached Horns will need luck to go .500 in conference play.

this team has no identity, discipline much less fundamentals - the next 7 games will be interesting......
You were definitely reading my mind. I said the same thing: this team doesn’t have an identity. The guys are running the offense they’ve been practicing on. If it’s not working, and it seems it hasn’t been working since last year, then coaches change the damn offense. I read a comment previously that said “different guys” with the same offense. Something has to change. I like the team but was skeptical about some of the recruits until I went back and watched them at their previous schools. Those coaches ran a different offenses and the guys looks totally different. I love Tre, and he’s been fantastic in these games. Many of his shots are tough, but I can’t blame him. These SEC coaches will have a game plan for him. If our offense doesn’t change, it will definitely be a long season. Defense needs to step up, too. We have guys like Mark, Weaver, and Larry who don’t mind playing defense. Larry was one of the guys I researched. He’s been on the defensive team for the last two years and was their highest assist guy. I get it: different coaches and different styles of play, especially the offense. Larry and Kent came from the same school and coaching style; I see why they gel together when on the court at the same time. I like the nine guys in the rotation, but they must put the right chemistry on the floor. Come on, longhorns, it’s not too late to turn this around. It has to start from the head (coaches). Let’s go Longhorns🤟🏽

This one on one will not work in the SEC. They are running the plays they have been taught. The problem is when they break down then what🤷‍? We know setting screens work it showed last night when A/M did it even UCONN. We normally slips screens instead of setting the screen but last night a/m was blitzing the screen. This is where the coaches have to recognize whats going on and make adjustments. Its too many on the bench for no one to recognize whats going on the floor and make adjustments.wra start praying and hopefully the linghirns can turn this around.🤘🏼

Gaggies are a better team. And a better coached team. Man stinks to say that.

Terry never has been a good coach and never will be. He held together the dumpster fire beard put us in but to say he is a good coach is just fantasy land. I dont see how he survives this year. We will be dead last in the SEC and get embarrassed on numerous outings. Its not personal, just fact. If you believe RT is a good coach you are doing so on hope and not product.

I don’t think Terry survives this season. I tried to hang on with @Chop and stay positive on Terry but there are just too many holes in his game planning.

However this team won’t be last in SEC. We do have some talented players and Tre will be a one and done first rounder. There’s enough talent to win at least 6 games in conference .

It was a rock-and-hard-place situation when Beard left and the team had continued success throughout the 2022-23 season. I know for certain that there weren't enough BMD's who cared about basketball to force a referendum on Terry's tenure (the new arena was already built)... and the future NBA HoF'er that everyone wanted to weigh in decided against it out of respect to Terry and the team that was gearing up for a tournament run.

Hindsight is 20/20, and as soon as the 2023 season ended and the team was gutted, they should have opened up a search and announced the new hire with the incoming portalers (Abmas, Shedrick, Weaver) and probably also a few more like Kaluma because the excitement of getting someone better than Terry probably would have driven some more recruits our direction.

Don't worry. College b-ball is a funny sport. It's all just a series of warm-ups until the Big Dance.

Who do all you naysayers think we should get for a coach, if you don't like Terry?

Grab a coach from one of the Top 10 teams? Who is to say such a coach would even want to come here. While we offer a great atmosphere, good recruiting grounds, the City of Austin, a great University, a good arena, lots of $$$$, etc., we are known as a football school. Will USC ever dominate UCLA at basketball for long time periods?

Here is the Top 10--so who could we even get, if you don't like Terry?

1. Tennessee
2. Auburn
3. Iowa State
4. Duke
5. Alabama
6. Florida
7. Kansas
8. Marquette
9. Oregon
10. Kentucky

And I'll note, we were INCREDIBLY STUPID enough to dismiss 2 of the coaches of these illustrious top 10 teams already. Coaches see that, and shake their heads.

Chop, I have no idea who Texas would get, but I will trust CdC and whatever list he has. He had his BB coach until Beard stepped in it and a politically correct administration would not let the situation play out before making a decision. Absent the unique situation at the time, Terry would not be on any list for a head coach that CdC put together. As for Barnes and Smart I don't think that impacts an elite head coach coming to Texas. For whatever reason, Barnes needed a fresh start somewhere else and Smart needed to get back to a small basketball only school which seems to be where he is comfortable.
