Texas vs Tenn

BEAUTIFUL!

Four players in double figures. Raven was "so Raven." That was my first chance to see the team play this year. Raven has improved so much over last year. It is obvious that she worked on her game in the off-season.

Great effort to out rebound Tennessee.

Why does Fox Sportsnet insist on showing replays when there is live action going on? I cannot tell you how many live plays were missed because they were showing a replay of the play that I just saw 3 seconds earlier.

Awesome, awesome game!!
Carla played her heart out in the 2nd half after getting in early foul trouble in the first. She is such a great floor leader!

I am soooo excited about conference play this season!!!

Way to go Horns! Carla was awesome wasn't she from what I heard. Great job by the crowd. I wish I could have been there. I bet Carla is glad she decided to stay at UT.

agree ... great game ... and my first time seeing texas this year. i have never seen arriaran in a game before today. probably not her most impressive showing, so i have to assume she just had a pretty bad outing.

Yeah, Texfiter, Erika just had a really bad day shooting the ball. She's usually much better shooting.

Great game!! Horns really played their game in the second half to put the Lady Vols away. Tenn is going to be very tough in March, but the Horns are also going to be improving as the season goes along. I was hoping for a Sweet Sixteen showing this season. The team may have other plans.

hey babhorn, did you go to the Q&A session after the game? i wanted to go, but i wasn't able to stay. do you think texassports will put up of transcript or a story about it? i would love to hear what they had to say.

and yes, erika was definitely off today. but she still did a nice job on defense, and she rebounded well. i really thought going into the game that she would be our best 3-pt option, because of her quick release, but the shots just weren't falling for her.

Horns' win is the cover story on ESPN for now.

Yep, went to the after game talk. Girls talked about their grades. We got some smart people on the team.

Coach G's main point was that she asked the team what was the most important stat. When the team said "rebounds", she asked what was the second most important. She didn't the answer she wanted the first time. She did the second time: assists. She reminded them that they were fourth in the nation in assists but only had two at the half. They needed to share the ball and look for the open player.

Seems to have worked as the offense was much better in the second half and the assists went from 2 in the first half to 12 for the game. And the Horns still concentrated on rebounding, winning that battle 52-41. And it was a battle.

Edited to add this quote from Coach G

Erika is a great shooter...she forced some shots and just needs to let the game come to her. I think it has been so long since she was in a game of that magnitude that she was a bit too hyped.

Kelsey was at the game sitting behind the Texas bench. Hope the win helps our cause. Great job by Coach G, the staff and our gals!

i'm pretty sure Coach Conradt was there in one of the suites. i thought it was nice that they introduced Coach Harston at the beginning of the game. weird seeing her on the tennessee bench, though.

For contrast, check out SUmmiTT, the Tennessee women's basketball site. The Link They thought every call went against the Vols. Sitting in the Irwin Center, I thought every call went against Texas.

All a matter of perspective I guess.

Nice game Horns!!

Personal Fouls
Tennessee: 26
Texas: 22

Not too lopsided if you ask me. Tennessee should be more upset about that the fact that they shot 46% from the FT line.

i figured tenn fans would be upset about the foul calls. the refs did call it tight to start the game, but i think it started to even out. and exactly as TXtoCO pointed out, they should have made more free throws. that really killed them in the end. mid-way through the 2nd half tenn was already shooting double-bonus free throws, but they didn't take advantage of that because they kept missing.
