All nine are averaging at least 11 mpg with Hand (37.9 mpg), Ellenberg (32.1 mpg) and Hook (31.9 mpg) all averaging over 30 minutes. Harden is the only one of the nine that has not started at least one game. Hand and Hook have started all 15 conference games while Ellenberg has started 14 of 15 and Griffin 13 of 15. Williams, Ellenberg, Hand, Hook and Griffin started the last game against A&M. Jelena Cerina (#12, 6-5 Sr. C)is the other player that averages over 10 mpg.
Texas is led in scoring by Chassidy (16.1 ppg), Yvonne (11.4 ppg) and Ashleigh (11.3 ppg). Chelsea as the first guard off the bench is averaging 8.0 ppg. Anne Marie (4.7 ppg), Nneka (4.5 ppg), Ashley (4.5 ppg) and Cokie (4.2 ppg) are all averaging over four pts per game. Chassidy has been the Horns’ most effective scorer, hitting 83 of 219 FGs for 37.9% from the field; 36 of 89 for 40.4% from BTA and 40-45 for 88.9% from the FT line. That FT% leads the Big 12 as well. Anne Marie’s 43.8% (32-73) from the field leads Texas in FG% with three others hitting over 40%: Yvonne 41.1% (65-158); Chelsea 43.3% (26-60) and Nneka 43.5% (27-62). Ronisha is 3-4 for 75% in league play, including 1-1 from BTA. Chelsea (11-31, 35.5%) and Ashleigh (14-46, 30.4%) have the second and third best percentages from BTA on the team. Texas OU
Anne Marie (6-3) Williams (6-3)
Ashley (6-4) Griffin (6-6)
Yvonne (5-7) Ellenberg (5-7)
Ashleigh (5-8) Hook (5-10)
Chassidy (5-10) Hand (6-1) [/pre]
Hook has been a force in recent games from the PG position. She may not make a lot of shots but she gets to the FT line as she did against A&M and converts, hitting 9-10 against the Aggies. Horns will need to pressure her without sending her to the FT line. Williams has given them more power inside to go with Griffin’s length. In the last game, Griffin ended up nine blocks mostly by standing straight up and having the Horns drive right into her. Texas will need to force her to move on defense, making it tougher to get blocks and easier for fouls to be called. OU will look to slow or shut down Chassidy until the game is no longer in doubt. Most league teams have not been able to do that. Screening and quick passes will help free Chassidy and the other Texas guards up for shots.

In the last game these two played, OU jumped out to a 7-0 lead and never lost it as they ended up with a 73-67 win in Norman. OU holds a significant advantage in 3pt FG% (35.6% to 33.5%) and FT% (72.0% to 67.2%). Even more importantly, they average making more FTs per game (15.6) than Texas attempts per game (15.5). Horns were able to negate this FT advantage by getting more FTs in the last game although both ended up with 19 made but couldn’t keep OU from 62% from BTA. Horns will need to do a better job of pressuring Hook, Hand, Ellenberg and Campbell when they are BTA. The Horns D, especially on the perimeter, will determine the winner in this game.
OU is angling for position in the Big 12 tournament along with A&M and KSU. Texas needs to win out to even have a chance of getting an invite to the big dance. Extra shots kept them in the previous game as thsy got off 73 shots compared to OU’s 52. Forcing 23 TOs wnile only committing 13 helped in getting those extra shots. Better shooting with a similar defensive effort will help.
Game time is at 5pm this Saturday. Coverage will on FSN. In Austin, that’s TWCHD 1539. KVET AM 1300 The Zone will carry the game in the Austin area while you can also listen to it on XM Ch. 202 and Sirius Ch. 216.
