It’s a big game when OSU visits Texas this Monday. At stake is a 3rd seed in the Big 12 tournament. Texas can tie with OSU for third in the league standings with a win while OSU can take sole possession of third with a win. Texas (19-10, 10-7) can reach 20 wins for the season and 11 league wins. OSU (22-6, 11-6) would set a school record for number of league wins in season with a win. Horns are 7-1 at home in league play while OSU comes in with a 5-3 road record. This will also be Senior Night for four Texas seniors: Chassidy Fussell, Gigi Mazionyte, Ashley Roberts and Helen Tau.
Horns have co-leaders in scoring going into this game as both Nneka and Imani are averaging 11.9 ppg. Chassidy (9.2 ppg) and Brady (8.9 ppg) offer strong support from the backcourt. Imani leads a trio of players that are hitting at least 50% from the field: Imani (86-158, 54.4%), Nekia (33-65; 50.8%) and Kelsey (36-71; 50.7%). Brady (24-62; 38.7%) and Chassidy (17-52; 32.7%) are the main 3pt threats for Texas while Nneka (12-23; 52.2%), Krystle (10-27; 37.0%) and Gigi (8-19: 42.1%) also present other scoring options from BTA. Brady is the top FT shooter for the Horns, having converted 27 of 30 for 90.0%. Nneka leads in FTs made and attempted with 59 of 84 (70.2%). The bench contributes 20.9 ppg (31.4% of the team’s 66.6 ppg).
Every starter for Texas averages at least 3 rpg with Nneka (9.1 rpg) and Imani (6.9 rpg) topping the five. Empress and Kelsey average over 4 boards a game coming off the bench. Four players have totaled at least 30 assists in league playe: Celina (67), Brady (46), Empress (35) and Krystle (31). Imani’s 39 blocks are just over twice as many as Kelsey’s 15 which rank second on the team. Nneka is third with 12. Three Horns have double digit steals: Celina with 17, Brady with 15 and Nneka with 13.
Brady and Celina have started every Big 12 game for the Horns this season. Nneka has started 16 of 17 league games. Chassidy has 11 starts in 13 games while Imani has 10 starts in 16 games. Four others have started at least one league game. All 14 players on the roster have seen action in at least 2 league games. Brady leads the team in mpg at 30.2 mpg. Chassid, Nneka, Imani, Celina and Empress all average over 20 mpg. Four others average at least 10 mpg. Texas has a core rotation of 11 players.
OSU has only one player that averages double digits in scoring during league play.Tiffany Bias (# 3, 5-6 Sr. G) leads the Cowgirls with a 15.5 ppg. Two others are just off that mark at 9.7 (Brittney Martin, # 22, 6-0 Soph. G) ppg and 9.6 ppg (Liz Donohoe, # 4, 6-0 Jr. F). LaShawn Jones (# 55, 6-3 Jr. C) is their leader in FG% at 53.0% (62-117). Donohoe (23- 60, 38.3%) and Bias (22-60, 36.7%) are the primary 3pt shooters for OSU. Donohoe also tops the Cowgirls in FT% at 85.3% (36-42).
Martin is the leading rebounder at 8.5 rpg. Donohoe adds 6.1 rpg and Jones contributes 4.8 rpg. Bias ranks third in the league with an average of 5.2 assists per game. Bias and Martin are 1-2 in steals at 2.0 and 1.9 spg, respectively. Roshunda Johnson (# 00, 5-7 Fr. G) is third with 1.2 spg. Jones with 15 and Kendra Suttles (# 31, 6-1 Sr. C) with 13 top OSU in blocks.
Bias, Martin and Donohoe have started all 17 league games for OSU. Jones has started 16 of 17 league games. She came off the bench in the last game against KSU. Eight players have started at least one league game for the Cowgirls. Bias, Martin, Donohoe, Suttles and Kamri Anderson (# 35, 5-10 Sr. G) were the starters in OSU’s last game. Katelyn Loecker (# 45, 6-0 Fr. F) and Brittany Atkins (# 1, 5-10 RS Fr. G) also play significant minutes to complete OSU’s core 8 player rotation. Bias leads the team and the league in mpg with an average of 38.9 mpg in league games.
Projected starters:
Texas
#34 Imani McGee-Stafford, 6-7 Soph. C#3 Nneka Enemkpali, 6-1 Jr. F#2 Celina Rodrigo, 5-8 Soph. G
#24 Chassidy Fussell, 5-10 Sr. G
#32 Brady Sanders, 5-11 Soph. G
OSU
#55 LaShawn Jones, 6-3 Jr. C
#4 Liz Donohoe, 6-0 Jr. F
#3 Tiffany Bias, 5-6 Sr. G.
#22 Brittney Martin, 6-0 Soph. G
# 00 Roshunda Johnson, 5-7 Fr. G
In the last game these two played, OSU pulled out a 67-61 win in Stillwater to start off conference play for both teams. OSU outrebounded Texas 40-38 and grabbed 14 offensive rebounds to Texas’ 12. Chas did not play in this game as she was recovering from a knee injury suffered in the last non conference game five days earlier. As the stats and score indicate, there was little separating the two in the first game. Both hit 23 FGs. Texas made two 3pts and OSU 3. Rebounds were close with OSU having a slight edge at 40-38. Texas had 17 TOs and OSU 15. The difference was FTs. Texas was 13 of 16 and OSU 18-20. Those four extra FT attempts and five made FTs were the difference in the game. Our posts played well with Nneka, Imani and Kelsey going 13-23 with Kelsey grabbing 12 rebounds, Nneka 9 and Imani 7. Our guards had a terrible night from BTA as only Brady was able to connect, hitting 2-4 treys as Texas went 2-18 from BTA. OSU didn’t do much better as Donohoe (2-4) and Bias (1-4) were the only ones to as OSU was 3-13 from BTA.
Texas will need to keep pressure on Bias defensively as well as not leave Donohoe alone BTA. OSU had trouble with the Texas posts. They are playing better that last couple of games, especially Imani. They could be even more difficult for OSU to handle. OSU will also have to contend with guarding Chas, something they did not have to do in the last game. Nneka will likely start off guarding Donohoe and will need to follow her out to the 3pt arc. She cannot drop down and help in the paint defensively as OSU is used to finding Donohoe when her defender leaves her. The flip side will be whether Donohoe can guard Nneka in the paint. Jones will have to be the counter to Texas’ two headed center of Imani and Kelsey. Bias will be the key for OSU as she seeks to exploit the Texas PGs. While she will need to play almost all of the game, Texas will be able to rotate Celina, Krystle and Empress on her. It will be interesting to see who OSU puts on Chas. Whether it will be Martin or the freshman Johnson.
This will be senior night for four of our players: Chas, Ashley, Gigi and Helen. While this will be their last game at the FEC, there is still a bit of basketball to play for them before the season is over. Last chance to see these players at home and visit with them afterwards in the Lone Star Room during the last Fast Break session of the season.

It focuses primarily on Gigi. I am going to miss her penchant for hitting those clutch 3s.
