Missouri is hosting Texas on Tuesday. The Tigers are 2-14 in conference play. After losing 13 straight, they are 2-1 in their last three games, including last Saturday’s 61-56 OT win over KSU that gave them their first home conference win. With a current overall record of 12-15, the Tigers have a remote chance of being eligible for the WNIT. Texas, on the other hand, is fighting for an NCAA invitation. At 6-10, the Horns need to sweep their final two games and make a strong showing in the Big 12 tournament to solidify their chances for an NCAA invite. Missouri is 1-7 at home; Texas is 1-7 on the road. Something will have to give. Missouri has been tough at home, losing by an average of 6.5 pts per game, not counting the 30 pt. blowout by Baylor. OU sneaked out with a 3 pt. win and A&M was happy to leave with a 4 pt. win. A victory for Texas will not come easy. But it is necessary for the Horns’ postseason hopes.
Missouri is led in scoring by their inside duo of Christine Flores (#50, 6-3 Sr. F) with an average of 13.3 ppg and BreAnna Brock (#22,6-2 Sr. F) at 11.0 ppg. Morgan Eye (#30, 5-9 Fr. G) adds 7.5 ppg from the perimeter while Sydney Crafton (#21, 5-10 Jr. G) is the top scorer among the reserves with an average of 7.3 ppg). Brock, Flores and Eye have combined to take 489 of Mizzou’s 813 FG attempts (60%). They have made 60% of their team’s made FGs—183 of 303. Kyley Simmons (#9, 5-7 Fr. G) has the best FG percentage at 48.3% (29-60). She is also the Tigers’ best 3pt shooter, hitting 22 of 45 for 48.9% from BTA. Every player for Missouri has attempted at least one three for the Tigers. Among those that are averaging at least 10 minutes per game that will shoot from BTA: Brock (8-28, 28.6%); Flores (24-64, 37.5%); Bree Fowler (#3, 5-9 Fr. G; 6-25, 24.0%); Eye (26-92, 28.3%); Crafton (5-18, 27.8%) and Liene priede (#32,5-10 Jr. G; 10-37, 27.0%). Priede (17.8 mpg) and Fowler (11.5 mpg) are the other two averaging double figure minutes. Bailey Gee (#2, 5-11 Sr. G) puts in 9.3 mpg and Liz Smith (#45, 6-1 Jr. C) is averaging 8.9 mpg. Simmons is the only Tiger that has started all 16 conference games. Flores has started 15 of 16 and Brock 14 of 16. Including those three, eight Tigers have started at least 5 games.
Chassidy’s 17.0 ppg ranks second in the league. Ashleigh (11.8 ppg) and Yvonne (11.4 ppg) join her in averaging double figure scoring. Chelsea (8.5 ppg) provides strong support coming off the bench. The posts all average just over 4 ppg: Ashley (4.6 ppg), Anne Marie (4.5 ppg), Nneka (4.4 ppg) and Cokie (4.2 ppg). With a total of 1003 FGs attempted, Texas is the only team to have reach that mark so far. Chassidy (93-241, 38.6%), Ashleigh (67-197, 34.0%) and Yvonne (70-169, 41.4%) have accounted for 60.7% of those shots. Chelsea, with an average of 42.9% on 30-70 shots, has been the most accurate among eight players that are averaging in double digit minutes per game. Yvonne (41.4%), Anne Marie (33-78, 42.3%) and Nneka (27-64, 42.2%) join Chelsea in hitting over 40% of their shots. Ronisha, on 5-8 shooting has the best percentage on the team with 62.5%. Chassidy ranks first on the team in 3pters taken, made and percentage, having hit on 39 of 95 treys for 41.1%. That percentage is third best in the league. Chassidy’s 39 made 3s are tops in the league while the number of attempts is second to Brittany Chambers of KSU who is 38-122 from BTA. Ashleigh (14-47, 29.8%), Yvonne (14-53, 26.4%) and Chelsea (11-33, 33.3%) are other 3pt threats for the Horns. Chassidy also ranks first on the team and in the league with her FT percentage of 90.4% (47-52). Texas also has three others hitting over 70% of their FTs: Yvonne (29-40, 72.5%); Ashleigh (40-56, 71.4%) and Chelsea (22-31, 71.0%) while Nneka (16-23, 69.6%) just misses joining that group.Chassidy also leads the team in rebounding with an average of 5.9 rpg. Nneka (5.1 rpg) and Ashleigh (5.4 rpg) rank second and third. Ashley is fourth at 4.9 rpg. Yvonne (93) and Ashleigh (50) are one and two in assists. Yvonne is second in the league in assists per game with an average of 5.81 apg. Ashley tops the team in blocks with 38 while Nneka is second with 12. Ashley’s average of 2.38 bpg is second in the league. Horns have four players with double figure steals with two others poised to join them. Yvonne leads the way with 40 steals. Ashleigh has 32 and Chassidy 22. Ashley leads the posts with 18 steals while Anne Marie and Nneka each have 9.
With Cokie missing the OU game due to a family emergency, Ronisha got 13 minutes as she played in her eighth conference game. The rotation has eight players who average at least 17 mpg. The starting backcourt are all averaging over 32 mpg: Chassidy (35.9 mpg), Ashleigh (32.8 mpg) and Yvonne (33.6 mpg). Those eight in the core rotation have all started at least one game in league play. Ashleigh and Yvonne have started all 16 games while Chassidy has started 15.
Starting lineups are projected based on the last game.

Missouri will funnel their offense through Flores and Brock first and go outside. Horns will do the opposite, depending on their guards to create offense and set up the posts. What our posts have to remember is that both Flores and Brock will get out BTA and take that shot. Flores is the more likely of the two to do that and the better 3pt shooter. The Horns will need to guard the 3pt line as every Tiger will take an open shot from there. Missouri is a team that takes a third of their shots from BTA. Chassidy will be the focus of the Tigers’ defense. Others will need to step up, as they did in the last game against OU.

In the last game between these two teams, Missouri stuck with their usual game plan of getting the ball to Flores and Brock who were the only Tigers to score in double figures. Horns did a good job pressuring Mizzou, holding them to 29^ from the field but send them to the FT line 28 times where they converted 21. Our posts combined for 21 pts while Chassidy and Yvonne had 22 and 18 respectively. Where the Horns need to take advantage of are points off turnovers as Missouri is giving up an average of 7 more TOs than they force. Missouri, at times, does an excellent job of getting to the FT line, which helped them pick up the win against KSU. They will look to force the issue and get to the FT line. Horns should dominate the boards although that didn’t happen in the first matchup. Both teams have shaken up their lineups since then. Look for Missouri to slow the pace most of the time while Texas will look to run as much as possible. The team that can impose their pace on the other is one that will likely come out with the win. Missouri is playing for pride. Texas is playing for an NCAA invite. Missouri plays well at home, although the results don’t show it. Texas has trouble on the road as the results indicate. Either Missouri will go 2-7 at home or Texas will improve their road record to 2-7.
Game time is this Tuesday at 7 pm CST. The game will be online at watch on mutigers.com/allaccess. KVET 1300 AM will carry the radio broadcast in the Austin area.
