It’s really a shame that KU sports department does not bother to keep separate season and conference stats for the women like they do for the men. Stats noted below are taken from the Big 12 conference stats page and are incomplete as KU does not have some players listed in a few categories.

Jayhawks are led in scoring in conference games by Carolyn Davis (# 21, 6-3 Soph. F) at 14.1 ppg and Monica Engelman (# 13, 5-11 Soph. G) at 11.1 ppg. Engelman is also their top 3pt shooter, having made 11-27 3s (40.7%) in their 8 league games. Davis leads in rebounding (6.3 rpg) and blocks (1.4 bpg). Angel Goodrich (# 23, 5-4 Soph. G), healthy after missing most of the past two seasons with injuries, leads the team with 4.4 assists per game. Engelman is second with 3.3 apg.

Kansas is a very young team with only two seniors and one junior on an 11 player roster. Their starting lineup includes three sophs who have started all league games. Two freshmen and a senior have split the starts at the other spot. The junior had started the previous seven league games before coming off the bench in Wednesday’s game. The senior has started the last four conference games. Engelman, Davis, and Goodrich have started all eight conference games. Aishah Sutherland (# 1, 6-2 Jr. F) had started the first seven conference games before coming off the bench in the second Colorado game. Marisha Brown (# 22, 5-9 Sr. G), Keena Mays (# 5, 5-7 FR. G) and Diara Moore (# 20, 5-9 Fr. G) have split the other starts with Brown getting the last four and Mays stepping into the starting lineup in the Colorado game for Sutherland. Krysten Boogaard (# 14, 6-5 Sr. C) and Tania Jackson (# 33, 6-2 RS Fr. F) are the other two players that have played in all eight Big 12 games. CeCe Harper (# 42, 5-8 Fr. G) and Brooke Jelniker (# 11, 6-1 Fr. G) both played in the last game against Colorado but have played in only 4 and 2 games respectively. The first nine players named above are all averaging at least 11 minutes a game with Davis, Engelman and Goodrich all at 30+ mpg.

Horns are led by the duo of Chassidy (21.4 ppg) and Kat (12.0 ppg) in Big 12 play. They are the only Horns averaging double digit scoring. Ashleigh is just off the pace at 9.9 ppg. Three other Horns average at least 6.0 ppg: Yvonne (7.1 ppg), Ashley (6.6 ppg) and Kristen (6.0 ppg). Kat and Chassidy have taken 78 of the 124 3s attempted by Texas in league play. Combined, they have made 31 of the 42 3s Texas has made in Big 12 play. That’s 73.8 % of the made 3s on 62.9% of attempted shots. Chassidy (29-31, 93.5%), Kat (10-12, 83.3%) and Kristen (12-16, 75.0%) are the top FT shooters for the Horns. Kat leads the team in rebounding (8.6 rpg) while Ashleigh (5.9 rpg), Kristen (5.6 rpg), Chassidy (5.0 rpg) and Ashley (4.3 rpg) each add at least 4 rpg. While Ashleigh leads the team with 26 assists, Yvonne (16), Kat (14) and Chassidy (11) also have double digits assists in league play. Ashley has been far and away the best shotblocker on the team with 27 coming in Big 12 games. Kristen with seven blocks is second on the team. Texas has only Ashleigh with double digits steals with 11. Chassidy (9) and Yvonne (8) are poised to join her.Kat (36.7 mpg) leads a trio of Horns that average over 30 minutes per game. Ashleigh (33.4 mpg) and Chassidy (33.3 mpg) are the other two.
Kat (36.7 mpg) leads a trio of Horns that average over 30 minutes per game. Ashleigh (33.4 mpg) and Chassidy (33.3 mpg) are the other two. Yvonne, Ashley and Kristen all average over 20 minutes per game. Chelsea and Tiffany are the other Horns that average in double figure minutes. Those seven have played in all seven conference games to date. Anne Marie has seen action in five conference games while Sarah and Shanice have gotten into one Big 12 game.

Texas has had seven different players start while Kansas has had eight. The ones listed below are the ones that started the majority of the past few games for each team. Constants for Texas: Kat, Chassidy, and Ashleigh. For Kansas, those players are: Engleman, Davis and Goodrich.

Texas KU

Kat (6-2) Engleman (5-11)
Kristen (6-3) Sutherland (6-2)
Ashley (6-4) Davis (6-3)
Chassidy (5-10) Brown (5-9)
Ashleigh (5-8) Goodrich (5-4)

Kansas will be looking to slow down, if not shut down, Chassidy and Kat. Ashley and Kristen have given Big 12 teams something to think about with their recent ability to score in the paint. They make it more difficult to crowd the Texas perimeter players while ignoring the posts. That in turn makes it easier for the wings and guards to get open shots. Look for Boogaard to come in and play at least 20 minutes as she has done the past two games.

The Jayhawks score almost 82% of their FGs inside the 3pt arc. They will challenge the Horn post players to make defensive plays. Their problems in hitting 3s could result in a lot of long rebounds that the Texas guards will need to track down. The Horns’ ability to run will test the Jayhawks’ fastbreak defense. If they can’t get back, Texas will feast on layups. That’s assuming that the Horns dominate the boards and get those fast breaks started. KU is last in the league in rebound margin with their opponents holding a 7 rebound edge.

All the Texas sports games seem to go out at 8 or 6 min left in the first half.I wonder if they are down loading part of the game and cutting down on the bit rate which is interfering with the game?

well a win is win so i'll take it. the defense was pretty bad today, especially in the post. we allowed way too many easy buckets in the lane. Goodrich had 14 assists

not good. rebounding and box outs were great today, though...led to several over the back calls on KU.

Chassidy missed her first 4 or 5 shots, and i was thinking this might finally be her "off" game. but nope, she just keeps shooting and finds a way to make things happen. AG has has looked so much better shooting FTs lately. 4-4 today!

i'm not sure what's up with AT. just seems like she hasn't really been in a good rhythm lately. Yvonne had a great shooting game, but man did she turn the ball over a lot.

4-0 in the "second segment" of Big 12 play. gotta keep it up!

It was a good game. Not the best game the Horns have played but a good one. Two players for KU had 12 of the 29 FGs. Davis (8-11) and Brown (4-4) really pushed that FG% up for the Jayhawks. Thing is, Horns got both in early foul trouble and that limited the time they were on the court.

Got 14 pts from our posts today. That may not seem like much but they are making aggressive moves to score. It means that opponents need to account for them defensively. The focus is on stopping Chassidy so it was good to see scoring from Yvonne in the first half and Kat in the second. It was uncharacteristic of Kristen to miss her FTs (0-2) as she is one of the better FT shooters on the team but kudos to Ashley who has been hitting her FTs lately. She was 4-4 today.

Horns had 14 TOs in this game. That sounds pretty good until you look at when and how some of the TOs happened. Horns lost three opportunities of fastbreak layups due to passes too hot for the recipient to handle. A couple more occurred on short passes inside where it was too congested for a good pass. Those will improve and be either eliminated or reduced.

Horns ability to hit their 3s (8-16) and get to and convert from the FT line (18-24) won this game. Kat (4-4), Ashley (4-4), Yvonne (2-2) and Chelsea (2-2) were all perfect from the FT line. Chassidy (6-9) led the team in mades/attempts from the FT line.

Horns are 4-4 in conference and now in a tie with ISU for fifth place in the league standings. Next teams in the Horns sights are KSU (6-2) and OU (7-2). Wednesday, Horns play at KSU; ISU is at KU; OU is at A&M.

Davis is listed as 6-3. She looked at least 6-4. She's gives KU a solid post player with very good offensive moves. And she's only a soph. Lots of good posts in the Big 12 to go with all those wings and guards.
