Spears is their best FT shooter at 88.1% (37-42), good for 3rd in the league. Smith is CU’s main 3pt threat, averaging 2.3 per game. Spears, Jeffery, Courtney Dunn (#34, 6-4 Sr. C), Alyssa Fressle (#1, 5-10 Soph. G) and Meagan Malcolm-Peck (#14, 6-2 Fr. G/F) have started all eight league games. That starting five matches up well with the Horns. Coach McConnell-Miller plays primarily eight players. Smith provides the main scoring among bench players. Ashleigh (12.4 ppg) and Kat (10.5 ppg) join her as double digits scorers for the Horns. Erika’s 9.4 ppg leads a group of four that average from 5.6 to 9.4 ppg. Ashleigh is second in the conference with her 47.4% accuracy from BTA. Brit (42.4%) is 5th and Erika (40.6%) is 7th in the same category. Kat’s 37.1% ranks 11th, just 0.1% from tying for the 10th spot in 3pt FG%. Kat and Erika have taken about half of their shots from BTA. Texas ranks second in the league in number of 3s made per game at 6.9 a game. The Horns top the league in 3pt % at 40.1%. Five players have gone to the FT line at least 3 times a game, led by Brit’s 53 FTAs. Lauren, with 6-6 FTs, has the best percentage. Ashleigh (12-13, 92.3%) and Erika (14-15, 93.3%) are the ones you at the FT line at crunch time. Of course, Brit (40-53, 75.5%) and Kat (17-20, 85.0%) are pretty good options, too.
Ashley is second in the league with 24 blocks (3.0 bpg). Texas as a team is second with 5.8 bpg. Earnie leads with 12 steals while Brit has 11. Four others have between 6 and 7 steals. Four Horns have at least 13 assists with Ashleigh’s 27 leading the way. Kat’s 7.3 rpg leads seven players averaging at least 3.5 rpg with most averaging over 4 rpg.
Projected Starters: Both teams have settled on their starting lineups. These five have started all eight Big 12 games for Colorado. For Texas, these have been the starters in recent conference games.

Looking at stats, Spears seems to be the main offensive cog for Colorado. She leads the team in numerous categories. Look for Brit to be on her when she plays on the perimeter and for Kat or Earnie to switch if she goes into the post. Dunn will present a challenge to Ashley and Cokie with her height. She is averaging just under 9 pts per game and is the second leading rebounder. M. Malcolm-Peck has a twin sister, Brenna. Both are 6-2 G/Fs. It would be interesting to see them and our Nash sisters on the floor at the same time. The announcers would really have to pay attention to the jersey numbers to figure who is whom.

Statistically, Texas has a significant advantage over Colorado in most categories. However, the Buffs close to knocking off ISU, OSU, and KU. A little better shooting game and they would have won those games. Horns can’t afford to think that this will be a gimme game. Nebraska and Baylor thumped Colorado but they played the other opponents they have in common with Texas tough. They play eight players, a good rotation that does match up with the Texas ten. Those eight have good height. They are the second best team in stealing the ball. Tech is the top team in steals. As outmanned as Tech was in the game in Austin, they still stole the ball 12 times. Colorado will be looking for steals to make easy baskets. Texas, though, has been on a roll since the ISU loss. They have clamped down on defense, allowing FG% of 31.6, 31.7 and 30.2. From BTA in the those three games, opponents have hit 14.3, 14.3 and 20 percent. Colorado will have a tough task to better those numbers.
The game will start at 8 pm CST. It will be telecast by FSNRM. KVET 1300 AM will carry the game in the Austin area. This will be the first of two straight road games for the Horns.
Have a safe trip, Horns.
And keep playing with that same intensity and teamwork you have shown in the last few games.
