One of two streaks will come to a half Sunday. Texas (17-7, 8-4) seeks their seventh league home win. They are currently 6-0 at home in Big 12 games. Baylor (21-3, 11-1) is looking to extend their winning streak over Texas to 8 straight. Texas has not beaten Baylor since Brittany Griner’s sophomore year. The top two rebounders in league play will be on the floor Sunday. Texas’ Nneka Enemkpali averages 11.7 ppg and 10.1 rpg as the only player in league play to average a double double. Baylor’s Nina Davis is close to matching that with a scoring average of 12.9 ppg and a rebounding average of 9.4 rpg.

Horns are led in scoring by a couple of players: Nneka at 11.7 ppg and Imani at 10.9 ppg. Chas averages 9.8 ppg while Brady adds 8.8 ppg. Nneka is first in FGs attempted at 104 while Imani is second with 102 attempts. Imani is tops with 54 made FGs while Nneka is close behind with 48 FGs made. Nekia has the highest FG percentage (23-10; 57.5%) among players that have taken at least 10 shots. Kelsey (31-55; 56.4%) and Imani (54-102; 52.9%) rank two & three in FG percentage. Nekia is the leader in 3pt FG% at 45.5% (5-11) while Gigi is the other player hitting over 40% from BTA at 42.1% (8-19). Brady leads the team in 3s made and taken (16-42; 38.1%). Three others are at least 35% from BTA. Nneka has made and taken the most FTs (44-63; 69.8%). Brady is second in both categories at 23-26 (88.5%). Kelsey just beats out Brady for the team lead in FT% at 88.9% (8-9).

Imani ranks second in rebounding at 5.9 rpg to Nneka’s 10.1 rpg. Kelsey (4.7 rpg) and Empress (4.1 rpg) are third and fourth. Celina has a half a hundred assists in Big 12 games. Empress (32), Brady (26) and Krystle (22) all have topped 20 assists. Imani, despite having played in only 11 league games, leads in blocks with 24. Nneka and Kelsey each has 12 blocks. Celina (14), Brady (13) and Nneka (10) are at double digits steals in league play.

Brady leads the team in minutes played 369, a 30.8 mpg average. Nneka with an average of 27.0 mpg, is the only player five minutes of Brady’s average. Chas, Empress and Celina all average over 20 mpg. Four others average between 12 and 19 mpg. Two freshmen, Brianna and Nekia, average just over 9 mpg. The rotation seems to be set at 11 with Ashley, Lillie and Helen also haven seen action in league games. Brady and Celina have started all 12 league games with Nneka starting 11 of the 12. Chas has started 6 of 8 games. Five others have at least one start in league play.

The Baylor Lady Bears are led by two in double figure scoring: Odyssey Sims (# 0, 5-8 Sr. G) and Nina Davis (# 13, 5-11 Fr. F) who average 31.1 and 12.9 ppg, respectively. Sims leads the team in the three shooting categories: FGs made & attempted (128-277); 3pters made and attempted (40-81) and FTs made and attempted (77-98). Khadijiah Cave (# 55, 6-2 Fr. P) has the best FG % at 52.3%. Davis is second at 52.1%. Sims also the best percentage of the three Lady Bears that have taken more than one 3 pter at 49.4%. Together with Makenzie Robertson (# 14, 5-9 Sr. G; 22-63, 34.9%) and Imani Wright (# 20, 5-9 Fr. G; 10-38, 26.3%), those three have taken 182 of BU’s 184 3s. Two Lady Bears have hit every FT they have attempted in league play: Wright (10-10) and Ieshia Small (# 24, 6-0 Fr. G; 5-5 FTs). Davis has attempted the second most FTs behind Sims. She is 31-51 (60.8%). Sune Agbuke (# 22, 6-4 Jr. P) has hit on 87.9% (29-33) from the FT line.

Davis is the leader in rebounding at 9.4 rpg while Agbuke adds 7.6 rpg. Sims is third (5.3 rpg) while Robertson contributes 4.8 rpg. Niya Johnson (# 2, 5-8 Soph. G) has a team high 67 assists while Sims has 49.Four others have between 14 and 19 assists. Agbuke is the only Lady Bear with double digit blocks (22). Cave with 7 is second on the team in blocks. Davis (20), Sims (19) and Johnson (15) are the top three in steals for Baylor.

Sims (34.9 mpg), Robertson (32.8 mpg) and Davis (29.8 mpg) are the leaders in minutes played. Johnson (27.0 mpg) and Agbuke (22.6 mpg) are the only others that average at least 20 mpg. Baylor has four players coming off the bench that average double digit minutes: Wright (14.0 mpg), Cave (11.6 mpg), Small (11.3 mpg) and Kristina Higgins (# 44, 6-5 Soph. P; 12.1 mpg). Sims, Davis, Robertson, Agbuke and Johnson have started all 12 league games for Baylor. Wright, Cave, Small and Higgins provide a four player bench with Chardonae Fuquá (# 3, 6-0 Soph. F) and Mariah Chandler (# 11, 6-2 Grad. Student P/F) have seen action in nine league games, averaging about 4 mpg.Projected starting lineups:Texas

#40, Kelsey Lang, 6-5 Fr. C

Baylor

#22, Sune Agbuke, 6-4 Jr. P
#13, Nina Davis, 5-11 Fr. F
#2, Niya Johnson, 5-8 Soph. G
#14, Makenzie Robertson, 5-9 Sr. G
#0, Odyssey Sims, 5-8 Sr. G

Neither team spared the bench in the first game as Texas had 10 players that went at least 6 minutes while Baylor countered with 9 that played at least 6 minutes. Each had a post with an outstanding game. Texas’s Nneka went for 19 pts and 15 rebs while BU’s Davis countered with 15 pts and 17 rebs. Sims took over half of her team’s shots (34-63) and made 12. She got 18 pts from 20 FT attempts. Cave added a huge 11 pts off the bench for Baylor. Texas’ Empress and Brianna were on the bench after 14 and 6 minutes with five fouls each.

Horns will need to guard Sims without putting her on the FT line. Controlling the 3pt line will also be critical. As a team, Baylor hits 39% of their 3s. Texas held them to 22% but gave them 44 chances at the FT line which were converted into 37 of Baylor’s 87 pts. Both will work on stopping the other’s post: BU’s Davis and Texas’ Nneka. For Baylor, better defense of the 3 will be critical. They gave seven 3s which allowed Texas to partially offset all those FTs. Texas will need Empress and Brianna to stay out of foul trouble in order to defend Sims. Baylor is one of the few teams to outrebound Texas. That will need to change for Texas. Horns had only 15 TOs, one of their better games but Baylor only had 2. Horns will need to force a few more TOs while minimizing theirs. Can’t wait to see how round two of Nneka vs Nina turns out. Sims will be a show all by herself as befits a player who may be the best in the nation. Empress and Brianna will have their work cut out slowing her down. Of course, neither can the Horns forget about Robertson camping out in the corner, waiting for a pass from a penetrating Sims. The Lady Bears will have that same problem, but with a number of Texas players, most notably, Brady and Gigi. Gonna be a fun game.

It will be interesting to see the adjustments both coaches make. They know each other so that plays into it as does the fact that both will be able to study what worked and didn’t in the first game. Baylor seems to be not quite as dependent on Sims although she is the main scorer. Texas has improved as well. This game should be a thriller with Texas having a chance to pull off the upset at home.

The game is at noon Sunday with Fox Sports 1 carrying the game. KVET 1300 will do the radio broadcast.

BU leads 24-20 with just over 3 mins left before the half. Stats are showing a technical on the Horns; can someone provide more info on that?

The announcers said the technical was on the Texas bench. I just assumed it was Aston because she thought Nneka had been fouled on a put back.

Good thing Sims is having a terrible game.

Can't get any uglier. On both sides of the ball. Just watch Mulky tell her team don't foul just let them keep doing what they are doing. Embarrassing.

Mulkey had a confrontation with a Texas fan after the game. She challenged the fan to come down to the floor. The fan declined. I don't blame her. Is be scared too.

Although I don't think the rotating bench strategy would have worked against Baylor regardless, it was a horrible day for our shooters to go cold. It happens. On the brightside rather than playing 25 minutes and then falling apart, we actually came alive in the final minutes of this one. A little too little a little too late...

It was a terrible day for shooting, free throws and coaching. Broken record but this offensive strategy will prevent this program from ever being on the same level as Baylor.- a team with only one senior. However she should be the National Player of the Year.

Texexted, that has been and remains my fear. We're back to being competitive but far from being elite.

We're just year 2 into the rebuilding years. Don't expect the team to be anywhere near elite.

True2Horns - I'll learn more tonight from someone who was witness to it all. 2-3 Texas fans said something that made Mulkey and two assistants turn around (starting with the woman dressed like she was ready to sing at the Grand 'Ole Opry). Before shaking hands with Texas players after the game, Mulkey "invited" the heckling fan(s) to come "down to the court." May have been the most entertaining part of the entire game.

re: "It was a terrible day for shooting, free throws and coaching. Broken record but this offensive strategy will prevent this program from ever being on the same level as Baylor..."

This is silly. It was indeed a terrible day, but Aston didn't become a genius while we won three in a row, and she didn't turn into a moron today. We do not have consistent shooting and have not had it all year. With one or two exceptions, we have a team of role players with no offensive star, certainly not in the back court. Baylor's whipped up on lots of teams, not just us, yet I have heard no one denigrating the collective IQ of the other Big 12 coaches. I will wait and see about Karen Aston, but note that the team is much improved and more highly rated this season----and normally people give coaching some credit for that kind of development. Next season we have two authentic McDonald's All American big time scorers scheduled to arrive. Kids don't always live up to their publicity, but if even one of these two can do the job, Texas should have a very tough team. Then we can evaluate. Right now we confront the limitations of our personnel.

Bad night for everyone to go cold. Couldn’t hit a shot at all in the first half, not even FTs and this team is a decent FT shooting team. Not great but certainly not as bad as they shot in this game. What really hurt were the 26 TOs which led to 33 BU points. Horns turned 15 BU TOs into 11 pts. Otherwise, everything was pretty much even. They got 12 more shots off due to TOs. They ended up making 6 more FGs. The TOs are what bothered me, especially as several were not forced but passes that were off target or fumbled out of bounds. Haven’t seen that in quite a while. I don’t expect that to continue.

As for Sims. Well, not much you can say about her. Horns did make her work. She shot 39% from the field and was 2-8 from BTA. But she is so quick and makes those floaters and layups look so effortlessly. I can certainly see why she is a candidate for national POY. She should be the Big 12 POY in a runaway.

Horns can’t afford to dwell on this loss. They got two tough road games next week at OU midweek and ISU on the weekend. Both of those teams are behind Texas in the Big 12 standings and will be looking to move up at Texas’ expense. Horns currently sit in fourth at 8-5 while OU and ISU are tied for fifth at 6-7.

almost forgot. Horns had several recruits visiting and sitting behind the Texas bench. Easy to spot among them was Nancy Mulkey.

This is all about how the team bounces back at this point. They came back after the loss at BU, and I expect the same after this loss.

Unfortunately, we didn't play as well today as we did in Waco. Really disappointed in the turnovers and free throw shooting. If your jump shots aren't falling (like ours weren't today), you have to do everything else at a high level; we didn't.

Our guards were trying to clear space with their forearms way too much; I have no problem with offensive fouls being called, as they were the right calls by the officials. That needs to stop; several of our players were guilty of that today.

Really hate the way Mulkey behaves on the sidelines. She motions for a travel every time Texas penetrated; and, she was pumping her fist in the air celebrating shots (not game-winning shots) several times in the second half. Not sure if other head coaches do that, but I can't recall any.

Team needs to re-group and re-focus; road games are tough, and e don't play our best on the road. I'd be happy with a split of our games in Norman and Ames.

There were many times after a basket made by Baylor that Mulky would have her arm in the air fist swinging wildly. Players on Baylor would laugh and imitate her just about every time after.

Teams were close in shooting, 40.6% for the Bears and 38.5% for the Horns. We had a slight advantage in rebounding. Not the best outing for either team and, as others have noted, the difference was the TO's. Not much to say that hasn't already been said about that. Agree the Horns need to focus on upcoming contests. We're on track for a top four conference finish, and decent NCAA seeding, so a strong close to the season is imperative.

didn't recognize anyone else and couldn't find out names of any others. Nancy was sitting with a couple of others around her age whom I assume were also recruits.

Took me a while to get back and watch the game. But against my better judgement I finally did. I cant remember a time where we were so bad on offense, and this is one time that I wont put it on the coaches. We got every shot we wanted, we just didnt put them down. The brighest spot to me besides the last 4 minutes, was KA's technical foul. I've been waiting for that type of fire was good to see especially when the officiating was so poor throughout. On tape at least, after the tech things started to balance out. Rexy and I actually sat together for the game and we were waiting for that spark that never came no matter what combo's we used. The good thing is that I think the team still believes that we can compete at that level which will help us come tournament time.

HI utfan! It was such fun sitting with you during the game. Too bad though, we didn't figure out we "knew" each other on Hornfans till the game was over. LOL! I've been waiting to see if you would re-watch the game because remember we said we were going to delete the game as soon as we got home! I actually watched the first half, but didn't have the heart to watch the second half. I'm glad to see your analysis was what we were thinking at the time - that the shots were there, they just didn't fall that day.

Hope to see you again utfanforlife!
