Arkansas Pine Bluff (APB) will play their 11th road game to start the season. APB will play another three road games after Texas before they have a home game. They come into Saturday’s game at 1-9 with their only win over UT-Pan American. They have a couple of close losses to Northwestern St.74-76 and this past Tuesday to Wichita State,56-68. The Lady Lions have lost to three other Big 12 teams this season: Texas Tech (97-57), Iowa State (80-64), and Missouri (81-50).They have given up 100+ points twice and 97 and 98 points once each. The Lady Lions do have some height but no one taller than 6-2 although five are at 6-2 and three others at 6-1. 12 of the 16 players on the roster have started at least one game. There are no bios linked through the roster and the roster does not list class so it’s hard to say how many seniors, juniors, etc there are. Adreanne Walker (#14, 6-2 F); Shay Holmes (#20, 6-1 F); Jasmine Abrams (#31, 6-1 F); Amanda Hammond (#3, 5-4 G) and Dominique Smith (#21, 6-2 G/F) started the last game against Wichita State.

All individual stats are, hopefully accurate, as the site is not really up to date. Holmes is the leading scorer at 11.5 ppg. She is the third leading rebounder at 4.9 rpg. Rekevia Brown (#12, 6-0 G/F)adds 10.3 ppg and 5.1 rpg. Abrams is the leading rebounder at 5.9 rpg and contributes 9.7 ppg.29% of their FGAs come from BTA. They are hitting a low 24.3% from there. Brown is the primary threat as she has made 23 of 60 3s (38.3%). The 23 3s represent 52.3% of the 3s APB has made for the year. Only Hammond with 11 of 31 (35.5%). No other Lady Lion has hit more than 4 3s or better than 25%. Holmes, Abrams, Brown, Hammond and LaQuisha Slaton (#5, 5-7 G) have taken 71.3% of the FGs attempted by APB this season.

Texas is led by Brit with 15.7 ppg. Kat is second at 13.6 ppg. Erika is third in scoring at 8.6 ppg. Kat (7.9 rpg) and Ashley (7.4 rpg) are giving Texas a strong inside rebounding game. Over 60% of their rebounds are defensive rebounds which help to start the Horns’ fast break and deny opponents another shot at the goal. Ashley is second in the Big 12 with 3.25 bpg. That ranks 8th nationally. As a team, Texas is second in the league with 6.25 bpg. That’s 6th nationally. Kat’s 81.5% from the FT line is second on the team to Erika’s 100%. However, Kat is 22-27 to Erika’s 2-2. Brit (43-54, 79.6%) and Ashley (21-42, 50%) have gotten to the line more than any other Horn. Erika (23-71,32.4%), Kat (27-51,52.9%) and Brit (15-41,36.6%) have taken 73.1% and made 78.3% of the team 3s. Of the ten players, only Kat is over 30 mpg at 30.8 and Lauren is the only one averaging less than 15.3 mpg at 10.7 mpg. Six players have started with Kat, Erika and Ashley starting every game.

Projected started lineups and APB is really projected since 12 players have started:

[pre]Texas APB

Erika Hammond
Brit Smith
Kat Abrams
Earnie Holmes
Ashley Walker [/pre]

Hopefully, the APB stats are correct as it was difficult to tell which ones were updated.

I will be surprised if anyone plays more than 25 minutes. And if Texas fails to crack 100 points. Horns should use this game to put the hammer down and not let up. It’s a game to practice some things under game conditions. The Lady Lions have not done well when facing competition in Texas’ class, that is top 25. This should serve to further knock off any rust still remaining and to get sharp for Big 12 play.

This is an early game (11 am) with the men playing at 3:30 pm for those that want to make it a day full of basketball. For the women’s game, kids get in free, if 18 or younger AND accompanied by an adult with a game ticket. In addition, fans with a ticket to the men’s game can show it at the ticket office and get a free GA ticket to the women’s game.

The game should be on 1300 KVET AM and will be on TV at LSN/FSNSW (LSN = Longhorn Sports Network (games seen on Fox Sports Southwest in the state of Texas only).

Sounds like a snooze-fest....guess they just got off a couple of more challenging games in Florida, but games like this are a bit boring...

I know what would make it more exciting....let AG stay down at the half-court line, and wait for a long pass from Erika, (or whoever) and watch her run in for a big-time DUNK!!!

Yeah, now that would make our day!!

What a great way to spend a Saturday morning, getting to watch UT play basketball while I clean the house and wash clothes. Makes those chores almost seem enjoyable.

Is it just me or was this team really clicking (well, except for the last 5 minutes).

Really some smooth intuition on the court today!

Don't know what was going on with KVET 1300AM but by the time I got to the car it was FOX sports programming, not the Texas post game show I expected. That was disappointing. That was about the only thing disappointing. Horns easily broke a 100 and rolled over A-PB as expected.

It was really nice to see Kristen get the start along side her sister. Good to see Yvonne also starting. There were a few rough spots where the Horns seemed to forget to run their offense and it seemed to be a playground game. But they were really awesome most of the game. Everyone seemed to be "on" offensively at some point during the game. We really didn't get the points expected from our main scorers, Kat and Brit, but everyone stepped up, especially Ashleigh. Great game, AT!

Yvonne also had a really good game scoring with 17 pts, iirc.

Other than the rebounding, I don't think the coaches will find much to work on. I expected the Horns to dominate the boards but A-PB is really quick and rebounded well.

Another game Tuesday before the aggies come to town to kick off the Big 12 slate.

They definitely playing WELL....I really liked the starting lineup!!

Having Kris and Kat together with Erika was great.....boy, Kris is hustling like mad...caused several turnovers, rebounded like a hawk...

AT was just incredible...

A week from today will tell the tale!!!

The team DID look good, of course the opponent was vastly inferior. That said, Texas maintained their intensity pretty well. They always look good when the shots fall - it's when they don't that is painful.

Anyway, good win, we need confidence and fine tuning for the B12!

GO HORNS!

great game today! definitely wasn't expecting such a blow out, but the shots were falling.

to AT...what a game! also exciting to see Yvonne and Cokie hit career highs.

obviously UAPB was a weak opponent, but as Coach G pointed out in the post game, teams often play their worst against weaker teams. i was glad to see the team take control early and stay focused. a few things i liked from this game....1) i liked the different line-ups. definitely great to see Kristen get the start, and she started the game off well with that HUGE block (granted the other girl was like 5'4" , but still

)! the big line-up of Cokie, AG and Earnie is pretty freakin intimidating. AG knows how to pass the ball, and she made some nice passes with this group. 2) i like Erika running the point. she's an excellent ball handler and passer, she's got great court awareness and she handles the guard pressure well. i much prefer having AT at the 2-guard spot. 3) i love that we have 10 solid players who see action and can make plays. as Coach G said, they don't care if they start or come off the bench...they play hard and make the most of their time on the court.
