A&M is led by Danielle Adams (24.1 ppg) (# 23, 6-1 Sr. F/C) and Tyra White (14.6 ppg) (# 20, 6-0 Jr. G). Sydney Carter (# 4, 5-6 Jr. G) adds 9.6 ppg. There are five Aggies that have double digit 3pt attempts: Adams (16-45, 35.6%); White (14-30. 46.7%); Carter (16-47, 34.0%); Sydney Colson (9-34, 26.5%) (# 51, 5-8 Sr. G); and MaryAnn Baker (9-24, 37.5%) (# 15, 5-10 Sr. G). Seven Aggies have stepped to the FT line at least 14 times, led by Adams’ 69-84 (82.1%). Five of those are making at least 73% of their FTs with Colson’s 90.0% (18-20) tops. Adams has taken and made twice as many FTs as any other player. Adams also leads A&M in rebounding with an 9.1 rpg average. White (5.7 rpg) and Adaora Elonu (5.5 rpg) (# 21, 6-1 Jr. F) are the other Aggies above 5 rpg. Seven players have at least 13 assists. Colson leads the way with 76 while Carter has 32. Five have between 12 and 25 steals with Colson at 25. Adams has 19 blocks while Karla Gilbert (# 34, 6-5 Fr. C) has 11 and Carter and Elonu add 10 blocks each.
A&M has fourteen active players on the roster. Adams, Carter, Colson and White have started all 13 Big 12 games. Elonu and Gilbert have split the starts at the other spot with Elonu having 10 starts and Gilbert 3. Gilbert has started the last two games which allows Adams to play the four. Seven players have played in all 13 games while two others have played in 12 league games. Kelsey Assarian (# 40, 6-1 Jr. F) is the other player that has played in all 13 games along with Adams, White, Carter, Colson, Baker, and Elonu. Gilbert and Adrienne Pratcher (# 32, 5-7 Soph. G) are the players that have minutes in 12 league games. Adams, White and Carter all average between 30 and 33 minutes a game. Colson, Baker, Elonu and Gilbert average between 13 and 25 minutes a game.
Texas has three players in double figures: Chassidy (18.5 ppg); Kat 11.4 ppg) and Yvonne (10.1 ppg). Ashleigh is at 9.9 ppg. Chassidy (31-80, 38.8%) and Kat (20-62, 32.3%) are the main 3 pt threats for the Horns. Yvonne (15-36, 41.7%) and Ashleigh (11-38, 28.9%) are the other players with more than 30 3pt attempts in league play. Chassidy and Kat have 51-142 of the 86-240 3s by Texas. Seven Horns have gotten to the FT line at least 19 times. Chassidy is 54-63 (85.7%) to lead the team in made and attempted FTs. Kat’s 87.5% (28-32) tops the team in FT %. She and Chassidy are the only Horns over 70% from the FT line. Kat leads the team in rebounding with an average of 7.5 rpg. Kristen (5.9 rpg) and Ashleigh (5.0 rpg) are the other Horns grabbing at least 5 rpg. The Horns have four players with at least 20 assists: Ashleigh (43); Yvonne (33); Chassidy (23) and Kat (20). Three players have at least 21 steals: Ashleigh (22); Yvonne (21) and Chassidy (21). Ashley leads the team with 36 blocks. Kristen is second with 12.
All 11 players on the roster have played in at least 2 Big 12 games. Seven are averaging at least 12 minutes a game with four over 30 minutes a game. Chassidy, Kat and Ashleigh have started every Big 12 game. Yvonne, Kristen, Ashley, and Chelsea have split the other starts with Yvonne and Kristen starting the most recent games.
Projected starting lineups based on the last game. Texas has had seven players start in Big 12 games. Horns have had three players start all 12 conference games.
Texas A&M
Kat (6-2) Adams (6-1)Kristen (6-3) Gilbert (6-5)Yvonne (5-7) Carter (5-6)
Chassidy (5-10) White (6-0)
Ashleigh (5-8) Colson (5-8)
Adams, White, Carter and Colson will log the most minutes for A&M. The Aggies’ offense runs through Adams. She has 31.5% of the made FGs, 28.7% of attempted FGs, 23.2% of made 3s, 23% of attempted 3s, 33% of made FTs, 30.9% of attempted FTs, 23.4% of rebs, and her 24.1 ppg represents 31.3% of A&M’s ppg. 81% of Adams’ FG attempts come inside the 3pt line. Horns cannot leave others open to collapse on her as the Aggy perimeter players can hit from outside. A third of Adams’ rebounds are offensive rebounds. Horns need to box her out and keep her from getting putbacks. Of course, that’s easier to write than it will be to do.
For A&M, their focus will be on stopping Chassidy and Kat. Kristen, Ashley and Anne Marie will need to score inside to force the A&M posts to play them rather than helping out on D. They will press, looking to convert TOs into easy baskets. A three minute span in the second half resulted in four Texas TOs and four baskets by A&M, including three layups.
Big 12 stats through 02/23/11. Texas is 6-7. A&M is 11-2 in league play. Big 12 rankings are in parentheses. A tie with other teams is denoted by a (t)

A&M is a solid #2 in the league. Unless Baylor loses two more games, A&M will be the number 2 seed in the Big 12 tournament. Texas is still looking for a signature win. A win Sunday would really look good on their NCAA resume. A&M is a better shooting team from the field (43.7 to 38.6) and the FT line (76.8 to 67.2). Texas has taken and made more 3s than A&M. A&M’s assist/TO margin, tops in the league at 6.6, speaks to how their pressure forces TOs. Texas had 18 TOs in their last game at College Station but forced 13. Four were in that 3 minute stretch that saw a 9 pt Texas lead dwindle into a tie game. Texas needs to avoid periods like that to put off the upset. Being able to convert looks from BTA into baskets will be critical. Another scorer to support Kat and Chassidy would really change things. Lately, Yvonne has been the one to step up in that role. A&M’s pressure on the perimeter is usually outstanding. Horns will need screens, ball and player movement to negate that.
