Texas (14-0; 4-0) travels to Lawrence, Kansas to take on the Kansas Jayhawks (5-10; 0-4). Texas will be looking to match the longest win streak in the series (6 games). Horns have won the last five in a row, including the last two in Allen Fieldhouse. Texas is ranked #4/4 in the AP/ESPN polls while Kansas is unranked. Entering this game, Texas sits atop the Big 12 as the lone undefeated team at 4-0. Kansas is tied for last with Tech and KSU. The Jayhawks have two players from Texas in Freshman Chelsea Lott of Fresno, TX and redshirt transfer Soph. McKenzie Calvert of Schertz, Tx. who is sitting out this season after transferring from Southern Cal.

There is a reason Kansas ranks last in the Big 12 in conference scoring at 44.5 ppg. Their leading scorer, Chayla Cheadle (# 22, 6-0 Soph. G) only averages 8.8 ppg. Kylee Kopatich (# 33, 5-10 Fr. G) is second at 7.5 ppg. Caelynn Manning-Allen (# 25, 6-4 Jr. F) contributes 7.3 ppg while Lauren Aldridge (# 3, 5-7 Soph. G) adds 7.0 ppg. Tyler Johnson (# 55, 6-2 Fr. F) leads the team in FG% at 53.8% on 7-13 shooting. Jayde Christopher (# 20, 5-8 Fr. G) is second at 40.0% (4-10). Four players have taken 134 of KU’s 194 FGs attempted in league play. They have made 43 of the 66 FGs made. That’s 65.2% of FGs made and 69.1% of FGs attempted. The players: Aldridge (8-34; 23.5%), Cheadle (12-32; 37.5%), Manning-Allen (13-38; 34.2%) and Kopatich (10-30; 33.3%). Kansas ranks eighth in the league in 3pt shooting at 28.6% (14-49). Aldridge (5-17; 29.4%) and Kopatich (5-16; 31.3%) are the most prolific shooters for the Jayhawks from BTA. Cheadle at 33.3% on 2-6 has the highest 3pt %. KU ranks eighth in getting to the FT line with 51 FT attempts. They have made 62.7% (32) to rank sixth in FT %. Aldridge (7-8; 87.5%) tops the team in FT%. Kopatich (5-6; 83.3%) is second and Jada Brown (# 4, 6-0 Jr. F) is third at 75.0% (3-4). Cheadle has had the most success in getting to the FT line, converting 9 of a team 14 FT attempts (64.3%).

Cheadle (5.3 rpg) and Manning-Allen (4.5 rpg) lead Kansas on the boards. Kopatich tops the team with six assists. Manning-Allen, Brown and Cheadle have four assists each. Manning-Allen is the top shot blocker with four. Aldridge has five steals with Aisia Robertson (# 15, 5-7 Fr. G), Christopher, Kopatich and Johnson all adding four steals each.

Throughout the season, nine players have started at least one game. In league play, seven have at least one start. Aldridge, Manning-Allen and Kopatich have started all four Big 12 games. Cheadle joined the starting lineup after the first game and Robertson has started the last two. Brown, Timeka O’Neal (# 12, 5-4 RS Jr. G), Christopher and Johnson make up the rotation that has seen action in league games. Two others saw brief action in out of conference games but have not gotten into a league game. Three others have yet to see action this season. Calvert is sitting out her redshirt year after transferring from Southern Cal this season. Kopatich (34.3 mpg) and Aldridge (33.5 mpg) log the most minutes for Kansas. Christopher, Cheadle and Manning-Allen all average over 20 minutes while the rest average in the teens. That gives Kansas a rotation of nine players with all getting double digit minutes.

Horns bring two players averaging in double figures into this game: Imani at 15.5 ppg and Ariel at 10.8 ppg. Empress (9.8 ppg) and Brooke (9.0 ppg) are third and fourth in scoring, respectively. Imani leads in FGs made and attempted (25-45; 55.6%). Six others have taken between 33 and 22 shots. Ariel (14-22; 63.6%) and Jordan (7-11; 63.6%) lead the team in FG%. Kelsey (13-23; 56.5%), Tasia (3-6; 50.0%) and Sara (2-4; 50.0) join Imani in hitting at least half their shots. As a team, Texas leads the Big 12 at 45.6% from the field. Horns are second in the league in hitting from BTA at 39.1%. Nine players have taken a 3 in league play. Five have connected from there: Empress (5-10; 50.0%), Ariel (5-11; 45.5%); Brooke (8-18; 44.4%); Brady (3-7; 42.9%) and Celina (4-12; 33.3%). Nice to see the 3pt shooting distributed among so many. Three players are averaging at least 3 FT attempts a game. Imani leads with 12-17; 70.6%). Ariel has the highest FT% at 83.3% on 10-12. Empress is tied with Ariel for second most FTs made with 10 of 14 (71.4%).

Imani is one of three players averaging double doubles in league play. She averages a team & league high 13.3 rpg to go with her 15.5 ppg. Celina and Brianna are second with 5.0 rpg. Kelsey adds 4.0 rpg. Celina averages 4.8 apg with Brooke at 3.0 apg and Empress at 2.3 apg. Brianna is the first Horn to reach double figures in steals with 10. Ariel is second with six steals. Celina, LaShann and Imani each has three steals. Imani has lapped everyone in the league in blocks with 21. Number two in the league only has ten. Kelsey and Ariel are second in blocks with two each.

Imani, Brianna, Empress, Brooke and Celina have started every conference games to date. Ariel, Kelsey, Jordan and LaShann have seen the court in all four Big 12 games. Tasia, Brady, Sara and Olamide have gotten into three games. Brooke’s 28.5 mpg tops the team with Celina second at 27.8 mpg. Imani, Empress and Brianna all average over 20 mpg while Ariel, Kelsey and Brady average in the teens. LaShann (9.8 mpg) and Jordan (9.0 mpg) just miss joining that trio.

Projected starting lineups based on the last game:

Texas______________Kansas
Imani (6-7)________ Manning-Allen (6-4)
Brianna (5-9)______ Cheadle (6-0)
Empress (5-9)_____ Kopatich (5-10)
Celina (5-8)_______ Aldridge (5-7)
Brooke (5-4)______ Robertson (5-7)

Manning-Allen, a freshman, will have to defend two taller, more experienced posts in Imani and Kelsey. She will have her work cut out for her. While Chelsea Lott, a 6-3 Fr. post, could help, she has only played in two of the 15 games and not at all in the conference games. That leaves 6-2 freshman forward Johnson to help out. Horns should be able to exploit their advantage inside, being able to rotate up to five posts, one 6-1 and the rest 6-3 or taller. Horns backcourt will focus on shutting down Cheadle, Kopatich and Aldridge. One area where Texas will have to be careful is taking care of the ball. Kansas steals the ball as well as Texas does. Horns had been averaging 15 TOs going into the OSU game where they ended up with 23 TOs, including getting the ball taken away ten times. Kansas plays nine players so it would not be surprising to see them press to see if they can take advantage of their ability to get steals.

By the numbers, this game should be a cakewalk for the Horns. The problem is that the Horns cannot afford to treat it that way, even with Baylor looming on the horizon. The first quarter will show how the Horns are treating this game. The issue is not to play to the level of the competition but to play as well as possible as a team. Kansas is the only team in the Big 12 to have taken less than 225 shots in league play. Whether by design or not, the Jayhawks average only 1.2 shots a minute in games while Texas averages 1.6. Not much difference but that comes out to 14 more shots a game. As poorly as they shoot, that only helps in holding down the score, not in winning games. Horns should also be able to take advantage of fastbreaks, whether due to steals or rebounds. Going into this game, Texas will enjoy a 16 rpg advantage. Horns should dominate the boards on both ends.

Game time will be 7 PM CST. It will be carried on the radio on 104.9 FM, 1260 AM. The game will be on TWCSC (TWC 394-ESPN CollegeExtra3)and online at WatchESPN (ESPN3): http://espn.go.com/watchespn/index/_/id/2711646/4-texas-vs-kansas

BU up 55-51 at the end of three. Hitting 11-15 FTs compared to 4-5 for WVU gives them the edge. WVU did not hit a 3 in the third quarter while BU connected on four. Jones hit 3-4 and Wallace connected on 1-1 from BTA.

that's two fouls on Brooke. Guess she will sit the rest of the first half. That's a long time with five minutes to go in the first quarter.

25-7 Horns at the end of the first quarter. Kopatich, who didn't start due to illness, just picked up her second foul seconds before the end of the quarter. She will join Aldridge already sitting with two fouls. Those two are KU's leading scorers in conference play.

Fran is way off on that. The bench scored well! Tasia right out of the box and Ariel has done well. Kelsey too. We went dry when most starters were put back in. Not they they were playing bad. Shots just weren't falling and we fouled wayyyyy too much!

38-19 Horns at the half. KU won the second quarter, 12-11. Horns struggling to finish as they drop down to 42.9% for the half. I remember when that percentage would have been really good.

KU really doing it from BTA as they have hit on 4-11. Two thirds of their made FGs are 3pters. Horns also have a big advantage in FTs, 12-14 to 3-4 for KU. Rebounds are closer than expected as Texas holds a 20-15 edge at the half.

Horns need another great start in the third quarter to nail this one down.

Horns win the third quarter 22-9 and go up 60-28. Time to wrap this one up. Imani looks to be two rebs short of getting another double double. Empress is there with 11 pts and 10 rebs.

69-28 Horns with four and a half to go in the fourth. Reserves have played most of the fourth. Imani has been resting since late in the third. Nice to see them not let up.

thought Olamide would get in soon. Nice to see her get some solid minutes.

And to think there were some that thought Tasia should not be playing.
