Texas Underachieving

For those of you who have said that TEXAS' athletic department is going to be in trouble against A&M soon.....

The A&M woman's golf team that finished second in the Big 12, did not make the NCAA field in the tournament. Guess who did?? TEXAS!!!!

We might have trouble beating aggy from time to time because we are their main rival and they get up for us like no other, but in the grand scheme of things.....they have a long way to catch up to TEXAS in overall athletic department and success.

If we were to set up a contest like this with all big 12 schools, we would have lost that thing to KSU twice in a row!!!! Even though TEXAS finished Top 5 in the Sears Directors' Cup and KSU was nowhere near top 50.

There was also a year where TEXAS would have lost a trophy to BAYLOR. We couldn't beat BAYLOR in anything that one year.

Are you ACTUALLY going to use women's golf making the cut for the NCAA tournament as our athletic department's saving grace against a&m?
I don't like losing to a&m any more than the rest of you, but this DeLoss-like mentality that ANY success, regardless of how insignificant, redeems our athletic program, that has been a&m's whipping boy for two years now, is not doing us any favors.
Every time someone makes up an excuse like "our women's golf team made the regional cut, a&m's didn't!!!", it makes people think that having a sub-mediocre program is acceptable. Even a blind squirrel finds a nut sometimes...and what makes you think a&m is the blind squirrel and not us? Let's face it: a&m's women's golf team has had a lot more success than we have had recently. Anyone outside of Austin would certainly think us making the tournament cut and not them as the fluke, rather than them beating us in the Big 12 championship.

As I've said, there is almost no a&m team that gets younger next year. Maybe women's basketball, but they will still be a force because of recruiting. You can bring up women's golf as some kind of evidence that we will soon return to glory across the board, or you can face the facts that we were beaten by young a&m teams that are going to absolutely kill us next year. We need to see massive changes in the offseason if we want to compete down the road.

While it is great that the women's golf team will go farther in the NCAA"s just as most likely the mens tennis will (another point we lost) and probably mens golf since we host a regional and actually beat aggy in a tourney at the same course we are now playing the Regional, the fact is aggy has improved and passed us in far too many sports and yes we will finish ahead of them again in the Directors Cup but that does not mean that sounding the warning that our AD as a whole needs to step it up is wrong or an overreaction.

For A&M to be such a big school with money.......they should have been competitive a long time ago....not just the past two years!!!!! UCLA and USC compete against each other all the time and they both win their share of events.

TEXAS should not change anything as far as their athletic program goes. I do agree that some coaches need to step up their recruiting....(Bev and Coach G.....softball).....but even Bev can finish ranked #4 in the country with limited athletes....how can you get mad at her????

The AD has done a great job at TEXAS......Final Fours, NCs in baseball, track, football, CWS, WCWS, 2nd place men's and women's tennis, etc........

The only sports that I see A&M outrecruiting us right now is track and women's basketball.

What other sports has A&M passed us in?????

Why on Earth would A&M and their 3 national titles be any sort of barometer for success when it comes to an athletic department?

I will do a final anal ysis on the State Farm Lone Star Showdown with my opinions after all the sports for the year are concluded.

tank....softball??? TEXAS has the most Big12 and tournament titles....it doesn't matter how they got them.....CAT or Christa or whomever.....they still won them and they belong to TEXAS!!!

Great pitchers are still gonna want to come to TEXAS because of our name.

Brittany Barnhill is not CAT, but she also had great hitting percentage and won us many games.
