Texas = Top 5

Texas likely won't end up in the top 5 in the final polls. I'm guessing either 6th or 7th. Granted, no one cares about anyone but the #1 team at the end of the season. But the more of this tournament I watch, the more I believe that Texas was the 4th best team in the country. The Pac 10 was over rated and UCLA should not end up ahead of us (especially with a head to head win), but they will. The same goes for Tenn.

Memphis and Kansas are obviously the top two teams. UNC is likely the third best team followed by Texas.

Definitely top 3 or 4. We might be better than North Carolina. It's hard to say. We were able to hang with Kansas when faced with a similar first half barrage. I wouldn't put us lower than 4.

Frankly, I consider it a lock that we'll be #5 in the final poll. The top 4 will be Memphis, KU, UNC, and UCLA. After that, the only contenders would be us, Louisville, and perhaps Xavier. Teams like Wisconsin, Tennessee, and Georgetown are going to move down a couple spots based on their tournament performances. Louisville put up a better fight in their regional final, but it appears they did it against an inferior team (as compared to us). Plus, Louisville didn't have near the regular season we had and they are coming from being ranked #13 (as compared to #7 for us).

I think it's a near certainty that we'll be #5 in the final poll.

Yes, but both Tennessee and Wisconsin got obliterated in their Sweet 16 game. That won't help them. I think it'll be enough for us to pass them.

JD76,
great point.
i agree we should be 4/5 in the country. Because of great regular season and elite 8 we cant drop below 7. We did get beat easily but to a team that might win it all. We are 1-1 vs the other title team and beat the other final 4 team at their place. I think we will be #5. Louisville should be #6. Wisc/Tenn/Gtown dont have a shot at 5.

Only time i remember remember being top 5 was 03. i think we finished #3 that year. We did get the the final 4 in 1948 or something like that, so i think that might be the only other time.

Bob, yeah i agree. and we beat Tenn by 19 at a neutral site, so pretty much what Memphis did to us(minus the neutral site).

I tend to think Texas's wins over Tennessee and UCLA have always counted for quite a bit this year. When was the last time this year that a team with as many losses was ranked above Texas? Texas was the only 6 loss two seed and got that over a 4 loss Wisconsin team that beat Texas in Austin. According to the s-curve, Texas was apparently seeded over both Duke and Tennessee (though I admit that it looked a lot like the s-curve was tossed out for the most rational regional setting for most 1-2 seeds).

Basketball is great b/c every team that makes the tournament ends the season on a loss except #1. No need to try and figure out who #3,4,5,6,etc are. Texas was final 8 and that is it.

Our last two losses of the year came against the two team in the Championship game. We played both of them as well as anybody else has in the past two rounds (except maybe Davidson against Kansas). We beat the same UCLA team that Memphis spanked yesterday. We split with the Kansas team that killed UNC.

Gotta be worth something.
