Texas Tech

Lately this whole website has taken a huge negative slant. I say we look forward to our next opponent.

Has anybody watched Tech this year? How do we match up, what are some key matchups that we need to pay attention too?

Sorry losing to OU always gets us down.

Texas should beat Tech easily but I do not have deep thoughts about it.

#21 is their best player imo...sort of a do it all guard

the white guard with shaggy hair is a tool...you can get under his skin but he can knock down open 3's all day

tech should be a breeze for you guys

Because some posters don't have the ability to separate a game from their own lives. They compensate by lashing out at some college kids.

This is basically the same team that beat Texas late last season in Lubbock. Are we better than last season? Do we play a style that gets big leads? Do we convert free throws?

All games now are big games and Texas better be ready to play in this one.

Thanks to those that actually contributed to what Tech does, I haven't watched them all year.

I am looking forward to beating them down in their own building!!!!!!

TEXAS!!!!!!!

I'm leaving for Vegas this afternoon. If that line is anywhere below 10-12 pts....I am hammering the Horns. Rick sent a clear message to Damion and Justin Mason on Monday that they need to bring it every night....specifically on the defensive end. Add to that he's had four full days to get ready for this game and surely has had the team's attention. I expect nothing less than our best effort of the season tomorrow.

My wallet hopes I am right.

Tech like most average to below average teams are jekyll and hyde when it comes to home and the road.

I think Tech gets up to play Texas at home, but not for TCU. And kenpom stats don't factor that in.

Texas is better defensively than last season, but they haven't been lately.

I think it's a struggle regardless of Texas' effort. They will have to score efficiently for it not to be.

Tech appears to defend poorly so I hope Mason regains confidence and we can build some offensive continuity to a comfortable win.

elface, last year, it was tough to watch them play defense because I expected the worst. This year, it's tough to watch them play offense for the same reason.

If this team played defense like last year's team, it would have lost to Arkansas by 15 and OU by 30. Tech certainly could rally for this game, but like the above posters, I expect a much better 40-minute effort from Texas.

You don't get to be favored on the road much in the B12... gotta take advantage of those opportunities....

Don't forget that all of Tech's offensive stats for the year are completely out of whack STILL because of that one game it played against whichever uniquely directional Oklahoma school, winning 170 something to whatever.

Nice road win. Good ball movement and good off the ball movement. James needs to realize just how important he is to the success of this team. Looks like he did that today.

First game we've looked decent and interested in playing since Wiscy maybe?

Don't know about Pittman, the anouncers said he was in the doghouse but declined to say why. Thanks jerkoffs, that was really helpful and added to my enjoyment of the ballgame.

As best I can tell, Pittman is not in the doghouse... but he may not be playing that much soon. They are going away from pounding it inside to spreading the floor and taking advantage of people who can drive, such as Balbay and Mason.

Hill with a career high in minutes tells you things have changed.

Mason played well most of the time and I don't think Balbay had a turnover. Matt Hill is merely serviceable, but I guess he is the best that we have right now as a backup post player. All in all a good win.

Hill is more than just serviceable. He isn't an offensive threat as anything more than a guy to get the ocasional rebound or tip out or garbage bucket, but he is able to take the pass at the ft line and pass to a teammate, so he does give Texas a different look on offense. He also is fairly active at setting screens, but his biggest impact is on the defensive end. He spent the whole game keeping Tech guys off the boards and seeing to it that there weren't any uncontested baskets inside. While he finished with only 6 points, 5 rebounds and a block, he was never really used as a guy to score, he was cheated by the scorer out of a block in the first half, and he tipped a lot of balls out to teammates in rebound situations.

I thought he played very well. He tired toward the end of the game, but that's to be expected of a guy who played 27 minutes when he had been averaging 5 and last played 20 minutes in a game on November 17, 2006, against St. John's.

I really didn't understand why he didn't get a lot more time against OU, especially when Pittman was on the bench with foul trouble and Griffin was totally abusing Johnson in the second half. Early in the first half, Hill stopped Griffin cold on consecutive possessions, forcing a really bad shot and a turnover.

Let's all remember this was the guy who was starting two years ago and was expected to be the starter last year had it not been for his injuries. Hill definitely has skills to help the team.

I hesitate to rag on a player in burnt orange, but in my opinion and with all due respect, Hill is just too slow on both ends to be a major contributor to this team. He is repeatedly out hustled to balls. This is particularly evident against opponents that are more athletic than Texas Tech.

Gary F'in" Johnson. That kid is a beast. Looked to me, like Barnes listened to this board, and focussed on pounding the ball inside. It does look like Big Dex is back on the bench. I don't get the Matt Hill criticism on this thread. He looks long, and fairly athletic, Brian Boddicker-athletic to me. I also note the kid plays with an attitude. Watch him set a pick, he gets into the opposing defender! I like his game. I could see big Dex splitting minutes with Hill and Atchely in a 3 for 2 spots after Big Dex atones for his sins. But Gary Johnson plays for sure!

I hear you Bob. Has Hill been hurt? In point, I could sure see why Atchley wouldn't dive for a ball. If just a lack of effort, I'm sure Barnes let Hill know about it. Overall, I thought the team played much harder than at OU. Then again, OU is a ton better than Tech, so maybe that had something to do with it. But Texas did lock guys up defensively, and the AJ Abrams pinball offense did evaporate (along with the minutes of Big Dex and Harrison Smith-strange coincidence there). All in all, encouraging beatdown. We have lost in Lubbock before when we shouldn't have, we didn't this time. We'll get A&M's best shot, but for the first time in a couple of years, I give UT a decided edge in the frontcourt. The Aggies have a slight edge in the backcourt. I call it Texas by 13. Let's get 11 conference wins and call it a season.

Hill has had foot/ankle/leg problems for two years, but I don't think that had anything to do with him failing to hit the floor for a loose ball. As I recall, that play happened in the latter part of the second half and was one of a few plays that I was referring to when I said he seemed tired in the second half. There was also the play he completely left his man for the dish and layup, the play in which he was lazy with the ball, letting it get stripped, and the airball on the 12 footer.

Still, he put forward a very good effort for a guy who got 27 minutes after averaging only 5 so far.
