Giving up 116 to East Central? I'm assuming that the teams might have had a gentlemanly agreement that consisted of them deciding at the beginning of the game that neither team would play any defense.
Heave up a shot, if it doesn't go in, you either rebound it or not. That is the only way I can possibly imagine a score like this occurring.
East Central was picked 5th in the preseason poll for the Lone Star Conference, behind Central Oklahoma, Southwestern Oklahoma State, Texas A&M--Commerce, and Northeastern State. (Northeastern of what, I have no idea.) The Link
98 shots is pretty impressive. I remember an interview with PJ Carliesimo (sp?) when he was the head coach at Loyola Marymount in the days of Hank Gathers and Bo Kimble. He said his philosophy was to take 100 shots a game. If they made 50% of them, they would score at least 100 points.
I was at the game and I think I have a sprained neck.
Ironically enough Tech held them to 39% shooting and forced 29 turnovers. Usually that indicates at least some defense. They scored 116 because there was a bazillion possessions.
Pat has said he wants us to play much more up tempo but last night was more about the opponent. They believed they could press and force us to do what we were not comfortable with . ....They were wrong.
They pressed about 90% of the game and anytime they did not get a steal it resulted in a 2-1 fast break or sometimes 3-2 wide open 3.
Pat wants Tech to run a LOT more than in the past, what happened last night was an anamolie and will not happen again.
It was absolutely crazy. Hell...we scored 90 points in the second half!!!
