Stayton has come through nicely today, with 4 innings with just one hit, no walks and no runs, after Workman had a rocky start giving up 2 hits, 2 walks and 2 runs in the first 2 innings.

Belt homered in the first inning for 2 runs and we have kept the lead up ... Bot 6th. Bases loaded for us, 2 outs, 1 run in. 6-2 we lead!

We got a run walked in .. 7-2 .. Bases remain loaded .. Belt strikes out on a 3-2 pitch to end the inning.

7-2 to top of 7th.

Couple of 2-out singles but Stayton takes care of business. 5 innings 3-hit ball and no runs given up. Boy, did we need a good pitching performance from him after the last weekend.

Going to bot 7th.

Bot 7th. Single, wild pitch and Kevin Lusson double scores one more .. 8-2 !!
Walk .. One out and runners at 1st and 2nd.
Preston Clark single. One more scores. 9-2 !!
Connor Rowe pops out (he is 3 of 4 today with 3 RBIs). 2 outs.
WP moves runners to 3rd and 2nd. Gournd out. inning over.

9-2 to top 8th. McKirahan comes in for Stayton who had a fabulous 5 inning outing today.

McKirahan .. single, DP, walk and a flyout. inning over. 9-2 to bot 8th.

Etier single, Belt walk, Kyle Lusson hits into DP. Maitland HBP. Kevin Lusson singles in Etier. 14th hit for us. 10-2!!

Kyle and Maitland batted out of order there but nobody caught it, says the commentator.

Two run double by Loy!! .. 12-2 !!

.. A walk puts 2 men on now .. Goundout, and the 2-out rally ends.

McKirahan starts the 9th with a K. Then a fantastic play by Kyle Lsson in right center field, as both he and Connor convergd to a ball. I don't know how Kyle managed to stretch and catch that, avoiding a collision. Terrific.

2-out walk. and a Swinging strike out. Game in the bag!

12-2 we win .. 12 runs on 15 hits by us, 2 on 6 hits by them.

What a fantastic outing by Stayton Thoms today. 5 innings, 3 hits, no walk, no runs. We needed a good outing oh-so badly ..

Stayton has only pitched 13 inning so far and has given up just 2 ERs. He has had two good outings in a row now. It is great to have a fresh arm (and an experienced one too) still left. It bodes very well for us in the stretch run from here on out.

This gave all the pitchrs a rest, and it will only help their confidence to know that we have enough arms out there to back them all up.

By the way, this Texas Sate team came in batting over .340 as a team, and our pitching held them to just 6 hits. Nice.

Our bats of course were out with a vengence today too.

This was exactly the game that the doctor ordered, to go into the Baylor series with some positive momentum. Great job, Horns!

Agree about Stayton. I was concerned when he first came in and was a little rocky, but he came up huge tonight. If he can give us just 1 or 2 innings during the weekend series coming up it would be huge.
 
Torbush. Couldn't believe some of the numbers the Texas St batters had.

Goldschmidt leads the nation with 70 RBI ... our leader has 26.

Spenser Dennis (LF) is hitting .462 on the season ... also has 40+ RBI.

Good win. I think we see them again in our Regional.
 
You're right. At least about Texas State. We can't pretend to be the Party school of Texas anymore.

I don't think we even come close to touching UT's numbers in terms of liquor, beer and pot consumption.

Boy, it takes some extra large huevos to be Southwe....errr.....state....errrr whatever to talk smack. Granted you have a pretty good baseball team, but come on.
