Didnt see a thread but props to the bullpen for some quality pitching and saving the regular starters for aggy this weekend in the 7-3 win tonight over Texas Southern.

Beat aggy this weekend to get closer to that national seed.

Can't recall the last time I saw a batter hit a pitch that was called a balk. Maybe the first time ever.

3 solid appearances in the last 8 days for Stayton Thomas. If he can continue to contribute it would be huge. We can use him or Workman as our fourth starter (or Friday night starter) for Regionals.

Also, Carrillo had a few good innings tonight. I like the way we have pitched over the last 5-6 games.

Is this pitching staff really this sick or is it the competition we are up against? they seem to be playing awesome and peaking at the perfect time.

Yes, they ARE that sick. Probably even close to the best EVER pitching staff at Texas. Somehow, the Longhorn Nation still has not caught up.

No, I don't think theyare really peaking or anything. They have been this good from the get go and have not had a bad stretch of pitching all year (the worst was probably three games against Kansas State recently when they gave up 4, 5 and 6 runs).

In fact they have piched marginally worse in the last 10-15 games, allowing a few more walks and screwing up their ERA a bit .. Probably doing only a 2.80 or 3.00 lately, compared to the 2.00 to 2.20 that they were doing before that. This is nothing unusual, as it happens to all pitching staffs, as the arms get a little tired over the season. In fact the ERAs of other leading pitching teams have gone up more than ours.

As for opposition, there also we have not shown a tendency to pitch worse against better hitting teams. The best offensive teams we have played this year are Oklahoma, Kansas State, Texas State, Dallas Baptist and Oral Roberts, all ranked in the top-50 in ISR, and all scoring around 8 or higher in runs. ERs allowed by our pitchers against them in 10 games -> 4, 0, 2, 3, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 2 for an ERA of 3.00. We held those teams way below their average scores ....

Yeah, we are pretty good in pitching this year, and have the kind of depth needed for a serious post season run, though I would feel a lot more comfortable if Brandon Workman gets back a little bit of rhythm that he seemed to have lost during the season.
