Texas Republcian Judge to GOP -- Adios *o*o

If you think about it, the GOP "should" be the party of homosexuality, especially well-educated, monogamous homosexuality. The "less government; keep marriage a religious thing and not a civil law" types would be drawn to the GOP. The "stay out of my life and/or my home or I'll shoot you" gay crowd would also be GOP-leaning.

But the religious right screwed the GOP's chances of garnering this crowd, especially the Falwell and Buchanan types that supported Reagan in the 80s. Romney would have been pulling a narrow victory if the "middle of the road" gay people voted GOP instead of Dem.

No, the sexual deviants definately belong in the Democratic party along with Weiner and Spitzer. As for Key, the Demos may have him and good luck with his next run for office. As for Chan, good for her and her free speech. She has my vote.

The Tea Party becomes more like the Looney Left everyday. Now they've adopted political correctness as a core characteristic? I'm no fan of those individuals but when did "unhinged" become slanderous?

I don't agree with the rhetoric but remember what started this Government Shutdown charade: Sen. Cruz likening ACA support to 1930's Nazi appeasement.

Just so I'm clear IvanDiabloHorn and majorwhiteapples, neither of you have any issue with Hu Fan's quotes then? It sounds like you both are fine with escalated political rhetoric. In that same filibuster, Ted Cruz also compared ACA Supporters to the British in the Revolutionary War and the Soviet Union in the space race.

Personally, I'm not a fan of any hyperbolizing political rhetoric. The D's listed above is no different than the crap being spewed by Ted Cruz. It's all emotionally charged gobblygook intended for the extremes of the party to lap up.

Whoa! Carlo Key became a fuckin' judge??? I went to law school with Carlo at Baylor. He was a nice guy who treated people well. However, one day the Practice Court professor went on about a 10-minute bitching session at the entire class because one of the students in the class was called for jury duty at the McLennan County Courthouse and no-showed. That student was Carlo. Kinda ironic that a guy who was in contempt of court before he even became a lawyer is now a judge. I wonder if he gives prospective jurors a hard time if they no-show or are late to his court.

As for his switch, I agree with Larry and ProdigalHorn. If you're solidly pro-gay marriage, the GOP was never your home, especially if you're in Texas. I have a hard time believing that gay marriage is his real issue. What this really looks like is a countywide candidate trying to keep his office in a county that's becoming more and more Democratic, like other urban counties in Texas. If that's what he wants to do, that's fine, but let's not ******** and pretend this is about gay marriage.

NJ,

Texas has the distinction of having effectively banned same-sex marriage four times. First, the common law didn't recognize same-sex marriage. Second, the Legislature banned the issuing of marriage licenses to same-sex couples. Third, the Legislature expressly banned and declared void all same-sex marriages and civil unions. Finally, in case all that wasn't enough, the Legislature and the voters approved the constitutional amendment you cited in case our 9-0 elected Republican-controlled Texas Supreme Court decided it had a political death wish, overturned the common law, invalidated the statutes, and decided to recognize same-sex marriage. We didn't just do it all at once. We spread it out so we could slap the gays down repeatedly.
