Not too early to discuss. For some unknown reason, I’ve not been fond of Brenda Freese. Anybody got a reason for me to hang my hat on? One of their top guards…..think McDaniel…..got hurt in first quarter of last game. Not sure about her availability. With Maryland at #8 and ESPNW pundits saying there are only seven teams that can win championship, need to win to not let Maryland move up into those 7. I’ve watched them a little and appear to be a very good team. For sure need a big win to get taste of SC gone.

I've always liked Brenda... I liked her even more in March of 2021 when her team was talking sh*t about hanging a hundred on us, and we popped them to make it to the Elite 8 in Vic's first year with a FAR less talented team. The look on her face during that game when she glanced at the clock in the waning seconds and realized they had no chance. That still stands as my favorite game ever to watch Texas WBB... Even more so than the 1986 NCAA championship. It's fun when you're a heavy underdog and you win.

That won't be the case this time. Maryland is a very solid team, and they play together with great chemistry... Something we still seem to kind of be figuring out. We show up like we did against 'Bama, we can beat team in the country. Show up like we have the past couple of games, we're in trouble in this one.

Cheyenne Sellers is a very special player who keeps her entire team involved. They're much like Iowa State in that they play a very similar style (Frese was once an ISU assistant in her early coaching days), but they're just more athletic. They definitely will let the shots fly, but they attack the rim also.

Like all of us have said recently, you don't know at this point which team or individual will show up at game time. I hope they all do, otherwise it could be bad.

The “hang a hundred” comment IS the reason I dislike her. Thanks for the reminder. Sellers is a very nice player and makes her team go. Very dangerous. Will be interesting to see how Schaefer approaches defense. His deny full court like he does for 95% of teams. Or the back-off hard man-to-man like he did against SC.
