Texas joins Ohio in Herbstreit Varsity FB Series

Saturday, Aug. 30, Texas Stadium

11:00 a.m. CST: Justin Northwest (TX) vs. Woodland Hills (PA)

2:00 p.m. CST: Mansfield Timberview (TX) vs. Buford (GA)

5:00 p.m. CST: Cedar Hill (TX) vs. LaSalle Catholic High School (OH)

8:00 p.m. CST: Arlington Bowie (TX) vs. Trotwood-Madison (OH)

Ummm... Justin Northwest? Why??!?!?

I don't know anything about Justin Northwest, but by your response I get the feeling they aren't that good? Is this some cheap way for Herbie to get a win to pad the Ohio stats?

If those two aren't that good, they will get their fudge packed, imo. Cedar Hill and Bowie are expected to be pretty good.

cedar hill & bowie are probably the favorites in their district
and ranked near the bottom of the top 30 in their classification (in the poll I saw). Timberview (9-4 in 5A last yr) drops down in classification this yr and is picked 3rd in a tough 4A district. All 3 should give most anyone all they want. Northwest was 3-7 last yr (though usually competitive) and picked last in their district this yr. Klein Forest went 7-5 last yr and picked 3rd this yr after losing 4 players to D1

The Herbie Challenge usually features a few headscratching selections from Ohio. Without knowing anything about the Tejas squad, LaSalle could get destroyed. They lost three BCS bound seniors, including 5-star Devier Posey.

Trotwood has a lot of (over)hyped talent and BCS offers, but do a very poor job translating that to the field. They also just lost 3-5 BCS bound kids.

I've always felt the selections for this game were pretty suspect overall. Some of the games are classic (St. X vs Lakeland, Moeller vs anyone, Colerain, Mooney), but some just get destroyed. Middletown has the potential to be that team this year who shouldn't be there.

sounds like mostly competive games of solid playoff but not elite teams from texas and ohio (excepting maybe northwest and middleton). they all lost great players but their young athletes always seem to grow up when called on. unless some state sneaks in a miami northwestern, slc, katy, trinity,... type of elite team, most of these teams will do fine.....
