'Texas Is Just A Name'

Texas is just a name according to a FAU linebacker. First the FAU HC and now a player. I'm about tired of the FAU smack, I can't wait til Saturday so the Horns can punch them right in the mouth.

I think his attitude is fine, but again, not something you say with a camera pointed in your face.

His coach is modeling this behavior.

Edit: Just wanted to add... I'm a lot more tolerant of these kinds of statements from 19-year old kids who are excited to play the game and find themselves as minor celebrities with cameras stuck in their faces. I expect a lot more from a coach, though, than a bumbling mushmouthed drunk grumbling, "Texas is not a tough team."

I hope the cameras in Florida keep rolling for a couple more days.

...and Mercedes Benz is just a car. Those guys are letting their eagle mouth get the best of their hummingbird behind. Thanks for making sure the Horns won't just mail in a win this weekend, but will make Bill In Sinton proud of their focusness.

That one wasn't really all that bad. It was kinda lighthearted in the way he said it. But, yeah, it shouldn't be said at all in a public statement if you can't back it up. And, no, they can't back it up.

Mudhole.

This really doesn't upset me much, I think he has the right attitude. This is the biggest sporting event in his college's history, and FAU has been conditioned to not go into DKR wide eyed. I don't think he was purposely trying to be disrespectful, he just said FAU is coming to win. Nothing wrong with that. Are you expecting him to wave the white flag and start praising Bevo?

I have no issues with his comments. How many players from small-time schools make it in the NFL? I see them playing on Sunday every week. More power to him for not backing down from the challenge.

Kudos to him for having some balls to say *something*, however innocent, to get his team jacked up to play us. But hopefully there will be kudos to us for knocking the snot out of those pissants and proving that we're not going to start off another season the way we did last year. I hope all the Horns are starting to get their game face on right now, dammit.

Let me get on the soapbox for just a moment:

This has gone far enough. I'm tired of hearing this little team run its mouth. I want every single person with orange blood running through their veins to give 100% this Saturday night--players, coaches, fans, cheerleaders, the band--everyone. Saturday's game will mark the grand opening of DKR-Texas Memorial Stadium's new north end zone as well as Vince Young's jersey retirement ceremony. This will be the largest attendance for a football game in the history of the southwestern United States. This is our time. This is our chance to flex our muscle and prove to ourselves, these FAU frauds, and to anyone who doubts us this year that The University of Texas is a force to be reckoned with.

Abandon all hope, ye owls who enter here.

nothing wrong with a little trash talking. good to see these guys getting pumped up for their biggest game of the season.

Ryan Palmer yesterday in an interview said something like "We will show them tough" and "They don't really want us to play tough" as he was smiling the whole time. I fully intend to see Rak, Roy, Lamaar, Melton, Muck, Bobino/Norton, Sergio, Palmer, Beasley, Earl, and Gideon show swamp aggy what the hell TEXAS football is all about. I cant wait to see some big hits put on these florida fools.

I don't have a problem with that quote. Sounds like he's saying some teams are already beat as soon as they see the big name opponent on the schedule and they can't let reputation, history and a name beat them. Thats the attitude that team should have, although I still hope we go crush them.

What's the big deal? Should they surrender before they show up?

Let's face it folks, the Longhorns under Mack Brown have rarely demonstrated that they are inspired by insults from their opponents. Recall years ago when KSU's president publicly insulted UT, the team and every Texan? Despite the fans' proclamations that the Horns would be breathing fire and kicking Wildcat ***. KSU proceeded to stomp the Horns.

With a few notable exceptions, Mack Brown's teams begin the season and play far too many games flat and uninspired. As one poster noted, Texas had plenty of BB material for ATM last season, yet the Aggies proceeded to dominate the game.

A championship quality team shouldn't need the mouthings of some 18 year old kid to fire up. Fortunately, it appears that Muschamps' conditioning and practice regime has brought the necessary level of attention and intensity to the defensive roster.

I will be pleasantly surprised if the offensive has developed the same fire, but I am not holding my breath. The O's nonresponse to ATM's cheapshots against McCoy showed an embarassing lack of fire on that side of the roster.
