Texas is Finally being coached right

Years ago I recall a Nebraska replay (back in the Eric Crouch years; when they beat us) taken from ground level. As the running play unfolded, every Texas player went down to cut blocks - not a single Texas player was standing in the shot. Finally, it appears, someone at Texas is coaching how to block. For years I've been loathing this zone blocking moving lateral (why the defense gets so much penetration), but lately I've been noticing a total change in blocking by the Horns - they are actually cutting people down. Finally! Kudos to whichever coach finally has gotten thru to the staff and players!!!

Remember, we're only as good as our blockers, and we're getting better.

I'm pretty sure we've had some damn good line man over the last 8 years. I think that 2005 o-line knew how to block too.

Wow.

Your sarcasm really proves you missed the point. This post started as praise. People have been crying about our running game being lame, and the blocking scheme was the main problem. After Ricky and Cedric, we went more to this laterally moving zone blocking, instead of the straight ahead stuff. It seems to me the darn zone blocking plays have averages about 0.5 yards over the past few years. The primary rushing yards we got back in 2005 were from VY's amazing scrambling skills. Texas use to be famous for it's running game. I'm not saying go back to the Earl Campbell years, but it's nice to see linemen actually cutting people down, instead of all 5 standing up looking back at the 5 opponents that just tackled our running back in the backfield, because they surged foreward, beat us across our face, while we gave away 100 pounds per man by taking our first step sideways.

Something has changed in the blocking philosophy and I'm liking it thus far. Keep it up. Colt is no VY, but do are darn good job of picking his spots. I'd just like to see some more straight away I-back running plays when the situation warrants it instead of this one back stuff.

I'm outta here - too much sarcasm masking ignorance.

You like where the running game is going? Wow...doesn't seem like it's been to good to me so far this year. Pretty sure Colt is the only reason that we have any rushing yards. The run blocking and Vondrell are both culpable for our HORRIFIC start.

Still to many plays that go for nothing or lose yardage... and that god awful 1 yard sideline pass is still used.

Throwing that WR screen makes sense if there's actually a screen, but we threw it to Cosby at split end on a side of the field where not only did we not have a slot receiver to block for him, but the defense had a LB/DB out wide so Cosby had to singlehandedly break two tackles in order to gain even 1 yard. Who thought that was a good idea?

Interesting how the year we end up "being coached right", also ends up being the year that our running game from the RB position has really struggled to get going. Maybe that zone blocking scheme... I don't know... worked.

Why do people have such a problem with Colt getting the rushing yards? I don't recall any Nebraska fans complaining during their MNC runs.

Remember the stat of Mack's record with a 100 yard rusher. Was that just 1 person or team rushing? I know it sounds like I answered my own question.
