'Texas is coming after me hard'

a guy on shag who some think is a fake posted that spencer region, an offensive guard in alabama, claims we are working him hard.

the way this recruiting season is going, nearly anything wouldn't surprise me all that much, but i've not seen any evidence that there is any truth here. anybody?

all i can read here is the teaser, but it is there in black and white.

this kid is said to be a lifelong bama fan. do you reckon he is feeding pablum to the press so that when he commits to bama they can claim it as a victory over mack? i just don't see the connection to texas that usually generates our going after an out of state kid hard. has he visited us? any history of hoping for an offer or anything else that might spur us to pursue?

Region has said that the only thing that he has wanted to do is to play for Bama. Then he commits to Auburn. Now he has opened recruiting back up. Nothing would surprise me.

agree, sal. we certainly aren't privy to the staff operations, and they surprise us from time to time. but we know our m.o. when it comes to out of state guys, and there's nothing right now that would lend credence to his claim.

if the kid is lying, or maybe being lied to, i can't decide whether it tickles me or tees me off. texas is getting a ton of uncompensated advertising these days, and him just saying that keeps our name in the forefront. i'm guessing region has absolutely no interest in us, but him talking about us might generate in the mind of a youngster in bama that he would be serious about us in a couple of years when his time to be recruited comes.

What we may be looking at is a situation like the guy from San Antonio who commited to us and then decided it was just too soon. Maybe Region really has a head on his shoulders and decided this was too big a decision to make in February. Or maybe not.

don't be surprised because it probably isn't true. a part of me wishes it were true, because it's hard for me to have enough line recruits, but i doubt it very seriously.

one reason being we are so low on numbers and are still going hard after so many known targets. i'd love to have another killer guard in this class, but i would absolutely be thunderstruck if we had any contact whatever.

I would liken this to a situation similar to what an Auburn insider posted during Tubberville's last year...

(as best i can remember)"Saban and the Bama coaches are recruiting kids they KNOW they're not going to take, harder than we're recruiting the ones we really want!"

Saban and Bama recruiting the players and high school coaches, just to get work in for future years. So i don't doubt that Mack and Company are the same way. Hell, they may call Spencer every single night and read him a bed time story, it doesn't mean they've firmly offered or that they will, but simply want to have that be a backup plan to their backup plan.

It makes absolutely no sense that we would turn away prospects like Hegarty and Drango, because of numbers, while continuing to recruit an OOS kid (and attention hound) like Region.

as i've said, i just can't see it either, pfd. especially given how many kids we are overtly pursuing with limited spots available. only possible way i could see it is if region fills a bad need for a big road grader of a guard.

i think it is bogus balonius.
