Final AP poll has the Longhorns landing at #25, tied with LSU.

Sorry but I feel the team does NOT deserved to be ranked.

Oklahoma came in at 3, Baylor at 4 and Nebraska at 7.

gotta concur...

this squad rode the coattails of two TEAMS that performed far beyond expectations in making it to the Final Four.

Seattle – I’m not sure what offended you there. It wasn’t my intention to argue, and I don’t know what came across as inappropriate scrutiny. Actually, I was going out of my way to not make any statement other than fact. We have about beat this horse to death and I was trying to not stir up anything else. It just is what it is.

As you know I have had my own frustrations with this past season. I think the only difference is that I see a better future, and you have concerns about the future.

I mentioned the 3-1 record because to me it is significant. It points to two things. One being that at times this past season Texas played very well. The other being my biggest frustration – consistency.

However, I do think it is only fair that if it is appropriate for some posters to complain about the program it should be just as appropriate for other posters to say something positive.

Believe me – I didn’t always agree with Coach Conradt, and I don’t always agree with Coach G. I do try to remember that they have won a lot more basketball games than me. But, the only things I am passionate about are respecting the players and the years of effort and commitment it takes just to compete, and wanting more.

Peace?

Got to agree with Outlook, regardless of what fans think, the coaches did vote the Horns 25th. So they do deserve it.

Opinions are like you know whats. Some think the Horns don't deserve the ranking, others do.

If you are going to post, it will be scrutinized. That's pretty much the nature of fan boards.

Per my opinion, the team has shown improvement the past three seasons. Is it where we want it to be? No way. It is taking longer than anticipated. Was that very short trip in the NCAAs, at home no less, satisfactory? No way. But that does not or should not detract from improvement shown by the team or individual players. Is there work to be done? Yep, and guess who is going to do it? Won't be the fans or posters. It will be the staff and players. We can hope that work translates into more consistency resulting in a better outcome.

And, yep, I expect this post to be gone over and rebutted by various people. After all, that's one reason I post--to encourage dialogue and expression of others' opinions. And I am awfully glad that most postings do not resort to personal attacks as I've seen in other boards.

It is a bit difficult to use those wins over Baylor as measuring sticks when the first was played with Melissa Jones being severely hampered by injury and the second was played without Griner on the court. I think we all saw that with those two playing healthy at the same time that they became a much better team. Baylor and OU also got better toward the end of the year and we....well, let's just say that we didn't.

If the coaches thought that we were number 25 that is good enough for me. There were a lot of other teams out there that didn't finish the way they wanted. But losing in the first round to a lower seed makes it difficult to argue that we deserve the ranking.

I agree, at this point, it makes UT look foolish that we are debating whether or not a 25 ranking is warranted while there are a bunch of other Big 12 teams that are ranked so much higher.

Of course the ranking is warranted and has nothing to do with whether or not the team could have done better. The Horns won 22 games and were 3-2 vs. squads in the final four. There are also four other teams in the final top 25 with the same number or more losses than Horns, and of course we played in the nation's toughest conference and probably faced a tougher schedule than most of those with a similar record. When you take all of this into account combined with RPI and SOS it is easy to understand why we were placed 25th, and it was likely a conscious decision by many voters to place 7 Big12 teams in the final rankings. At this point I don't know that it matters whether we are ranked 25th, 20th or not at all...it seems like the final poll was just an excuse for a few to make comments that don't really have anything at all to do with the rankings.

quite a difference between being a top 25 team and not. And to address what so many seem to complain about, I doubt that anyone, fans, players or staff, are satisfied with that.

Well looking at the big picture all you folks gettting stirred up over a 25 ranking? One way or the other what difference does it make? If you don't come in first and are carrying the trophy who gives a damn????

Big picture also includes recruiting. Which Big 12 program are you going to take a longer look at if you are a top recruit, one that gets to the Final Four or one that loses in the first round and takes comfort in being ranked in the top 25? What has happened to UT standards when we take comfort in being ranked 25th?

Exactly my point being we were one and done this year that is what recruits look at. Not the final tally of a number that has no significance.

I must have missed it, but I don't see where I said that Coach G took comfort in being ranked number 25. So how about you not put words in my mouth. I am referring to the fan base. We look foolish at this point in the year to be debating whether or not a 25 ranking is deserved.

Another "wait until next year" end to the season.

well i guess i just don't see where fans are taking comfort in that either, and i don't think it's fair to assume that some of us are just because we're not up in arms about the ranking. like i said, i'm not happy about it. but i'm not sure what, as a fan, i can do besides be supportive, go to games, and cheer as loud as i can. that's what i will be doing, no matter where this team is or isn't ranked in the polls. it's up to the coaching staff and players to rebuild this program to the level we want it to be. and personally, i think Coach G is the right person to that.

I don't know why some of you are so doom and gloom. Three years ago we won 6 conference games. Two years ago 7. Last year 8. This year 10. I'm not worried about what fans at other schools are saying. The definition of improvement is being met. We'll be in the hunt for a Championship consistently before you know it. Some of you might not realize this, but both Coale and Mulkey didn't make the tournament in their third seasons at OK and Baylor.

Hook 'em!

This is what it comes down to. It isn’t about what ranking is appropriate. I do care about the ranking. I would rather be 25 than 26. I would rather be getting votes than not. But, that is not the standard we look for at Texas, no one is satisfied, and that isn’t what the disagreement on this board is about…..IMO.

The disagreement is about whether or not the program is headed in the right direction, and if there has been improvement – and if so has that improvement been enough to feel comfortable about the future.

Here is my question…and I am not trying to be argumentative, I really want to know…….If you do not see improvement in this program over the past several years what is it specifically that you are looking for that has not been present. What would, in 2010-11, make you believe the program was headed in the right direction?

I have said before that while I am far from satisfied I feel good about the future. I have seen what I consider to be improvement in all of the areas I feel are important. I think the trend needs to continue next season, as this is far from a finished process….

I think we need better ball control and fewer turnovers at the point. AT has been learning the position as an underclassman. She will be a junior next season and she needs to play like one. YA will also be a junior and needs to take advantage of the additional minutes that will be available to help solidify guard play. We need consistent scoring in the post. Again we have been playing with underclassmen. AG needs to spend the offseason developing some offense to go with her great defense. Cokie will only be a sophomore but needs to refine her offense and get herself in condition that allows her to play more minutes. Both have to learn how to stay out of foul trouble. The incoming freshmen have to make an impact. This is coach G’s biggest group and they will significantly change the character of the team. That needs to be a positive.

I feel pretty good about those things happening, but certainly don’t take any of them for granted. The other thing I would like to see is more of a killer instinct from the opening tip. I want a team that tries to put you away in the first four minutes more than a team with character that never gives up even when behind.

So, is it that you are looking for the same things and don’t think it is likely they will happen, or are you looking for something completely different?

Turnovers, missed free throws, missed lay-ups. I did not see any significant improvement in those areas season over season over season. Chemistry is lacking.

This squad left at least five games out of the win column due to the above four items.

I would feel differently if I had seen signs of them playing together as a team instead of the all-to-frequent five players on a court. And all of these are issues that fall back to coaching and are among the issues that, IMO, made this squad overrated at the 25-spot.

I don't expect perfection but I DO expect better than I have seen...how many times should they be given free passes on making the SAME mistakes?

Listen. As someone who watched this Senior class all those years. There WAS improvement. We moved the ball better and actually changed up our defense and ran plays. Yes. There was indeed improvement. However, I totally agree about chemistry. That IMHO was our biggest problem. The whole was NOT greater than the sum of our parts. Each player brought talent, but together they never clicked. And two of the game's best coaches couldn't seem to do anything about it so I would say that the problem was most likely with the players. Not one player or even a couple. But the group as a whole.

We had 6 wins against these top 25 teams and were 3-2 against the top 4. I think we deserve to be there. I just wish we played well enough to be higher up.

Heard Augie Garrido on the radio talking about maintaining enough tension to stay focused while staying loose enough that players are having fun. Just looking from outside, it seems like around mid-season or so we hit a wall, the players sure don't seem to be having any fun, and the coaching intensity is off the charts. I'm not inside the team so maybe those observations are way off base. Undoubtedly, some players do well in that kind of environment and some don't...so maybe that gets back to the coach having time to have picked her own players. Don't have any answers but I reach a point where I just want to look the other way rather than watch the coaches and the team fall apart.

8 consecutive losses to Texas A&M doesn't strike me as "improvement". With Kelsey Bone playing in 2011-12, it will be critical for Texas to beat them this coming season.
