slightly better shooting in the second half. 67-52 Horns. Solid win with two of our top scorers, Chas and Imani, having off nights.
We really are going to have to work on getting out on the 3pt shooters better. Lobos hit a lot of open 3s.
Good to see that Nneka and Empress, who had foul trouble in the exhibition and the first game, are playing without fouling as much.
Stanford is going to be interesting. Chiney and Orrange will be tough matchups. If our outside shots are going in, though, I like our chances cuz that will help open up the inside.
Nice road win for the Horns. Agree we need to defend the perimeter a little better, and definitely have to shoot better than 17% from BTA. But I think we're going to be a much better 3 pt team than that this season. We have to be. Nice to see Imani contribute in so many other ways on a night her shot wasn't falling; 4 blks, 3 stls and especially going a perfect 6-6 from the line. Interesting that two of our strongest offensive performers the last two games (Celina vs. Texas State and Empress last night) came from players you wouldn't have expected that from last season. I guess I was slightly surprised to see Celina play just 13 mins based on how she looked against the Bobcats. Seems like that would be the kind of performance you might want to build upon. Overall, on a night three starters shot a combined 6-29, you have to be happy with a solid 15 pt win on the road. It's all about finding a way to win, and I like what I see so far. I think we have a fair chance of pulling off the upset vs. Stanford. The Cardinal have had their own offensive struggles thus far so hopefully we can exploit that on our home floor. If nothing else the stronger competition will give us a better idea of where we're at, but I think the Horns are going to get the job done.
