I hope they can utilize Chiles in a better way than last year.
I can only remember 1 play when Colt went out wide and John took the snap to run a draw.
Didn't amount to much but I will be happy if we see Colt at QB and John either split out wide / in the slot / behind Colt / or lined up next to Colt.
This will open up the field and allow for many different formations / plays.
If nothing else, just using Chiles as a decoy and make the defense prepare and react for him when he is on the field.
I am having flashbacks to Ohio St in 2004!! If Troy is in the entire game, who knows what happens, it is at least more interesting.
I agree Chiles is waaaaay too good to sit on the sideline, but please not a 2 QB thing. Stick with your main man and get Chiles on the field however else you can.
OK not as bad as it sounded at first. I like the idea of him on the field but not QBing, except for a direct snap. Of course even then, I hope it is not always obvious as during the ASU game. The teams of the big 12 will be more ready than the little devils.
Whether or how Chiles is used in a "better" way than last year depends on him, no? It depends on whether he is ready to be used in more capacities. Can he be relied on, has he put in the work and does he make the right decisions? He was not there last year in the way we wish he was.
Depending on the type of off season he had he may just be there now. We have to see. It is not like the coaches held him back. We forget he was not groomed a QB his whole playing time growing up. He is new to the position and had/has a lot to learn. Give him time. I hope he turns into exactly what we all want him to be...a flat out badass no matter where he is on the field.
I pray that the coaches do not become narrow minded when both Mccoy and Chiles are in. Running Mccoy to the receiver position then running left or right with Chiles will not work all year. Gotta mix it up.
I like the idea of the zone read with Mccoy and Chiles and Heaven forbid we pull out some stops and let Chiles throw!
Ofcourse Chiles does need to be able to hit a receiver before you can venture down that path.
Having Chiles in a pro set would basically mean that a halfback pass could happen at any time. If you had him in every 3rd play and threw a bomb at least once a game (twice against weak opponents), that would definitely do something to how the D-backs played up. It would also give McCoy a chance to get his licks in on the defense (Colt Is Mean).
Pro set is a good idea but I don't think it spreads the field enough to open up lanes for Chiles unless they stunt him outside as a 3rd WR.
To me if they put him in with Colt as QB then he will be used as a RB (he's big and fast enough) and sometimes they will shift him out to the slot as a 4th WR. From there he will be either a WR, a decoy, or used on a reverse. Quan will have to be opposite side of field though and you can have either involved in a reverse pass or a double reverse pass.
Main thing is that they can't use him in trick plays every single time and need to actually give him the ball as a RB some.
