You laugh but that's Bessie, a highly-recruited 4-star ewe out of east Texas somewhere.

Riding Bessie is 2019 aggy pledge Billy Bob Bubba Jim "Bootsy" Kyliefeld, another talented QB prospect who is expected to show great potential shortly before transferring out.

I'd feel much better about the class if most of the 4 stars we picked up weren't on the defensive side of the ball. We need some more offensive playmakers

And the rumor is that the player who was in touch late Tuesday was actually top-200 DE Rahssan Thornton, LSU commit. Apparently he had some last-minute cold feet about going to LSU. Anyway, he went ahead and committed there. Not a huge deal.
Oh, this is interesting. As per what 247 posted today, this Rasshan Thornton thing happened on wednesday morning. He was always a Longhorn fan, as we knew, and committed to LSU because Texas offered late (which is something nobody will get upset about, from now on, when it comes to Strong!). Apparently he committed then to kinda show some revenge, soon after we offerred. But then he never flipped because LSU was recruiting so well (and we hardly had a class together). But he had always liked us. So when it came to signing up for LSU, and he found we were going gangbusters, I guess he really felt bad and called us. But LSU got wind of it and basically pushed him to send his fax rigth-away, and he had to do it. Well, interesting...

Now, it turns out that the player that was under discussion late Tuesday night (when I had posted here about some shocking smoke at midnight) was entirely somebody else, as per 247. This was the guy we thought might be Caleb Kelly because somebody had heard that it was "the highest-rated guy at another school, but not just any school". And it was exactly the other possibility that fit, but one we thought just couldn't be possible - Justin Madubuike!!! He really was in two minds right at the end. I assume it had to be because he waited till the end to see if Sumlin could do some magic to save the class, but saw that it was not going to happen. It seems he had even joined our player group chats in the end, and Malik pushed him hard too. After all, he had also liked us for quite a while and had misjudged how the two schools would do. Anyway, maybe because he was some kind of a leader of the pack at A&M and was trying his best to see if they could get a good class together (despite Sumlin, I suppose) I think he just couldn't make himself pull the trigger on a flip and leave aggy in utter, complete, misery. That fits the late night rumor narrative that the player was sleeping on it, with a 60-40 shot for us. Though I hate him as an aggy, I don't hate him for doing what he did.

That clears up all the last minute smokes and chatter we had. Most of these things were not unfounded rumors this time, as it turns out.

We got a good class and filled our defensive needs. ( Would feel better if we had also gotten Jackson at ILB, but can't have everything ).
We are really hurting on defense, and this class addressed that, along with some quality depth at RB, WR, OL, and a QB who can play in our new offense.
We have four quality guys committed for 2017 at QB, WR, TE, and DE....We must get some ILBs...

What's great is our recruits seem to be grounded, intelligent, and dignified. The future is bright....very very bright. Now coach'em up, and we're on our way!

True! And no doubt in my mind that it is a direct result of Coach Strong's code of conduct, his enforcement of it, and the promise he makes to recruits and their parents that the kid will go to class, stay clean, and be supported by a hands on, caring coaching staff. :hookem2:

Surely that is not true....
Why would a kid sign the letter until he was SURE, when he has all kinds of time. NSD at 7am is merely the earliest you can sign. The deadline is like....is there one ????
Higdon doesn't lie about these things, based on his past record. So I tend to believe that something like what he is saying did happen.

There is probably some deadline several months later by when NLIs need to be in, and the classes have to be fixed, but 7 am on NSD is the earliest time to get an NLI for the 2016 class.

I can see how a 17 year old can be manipulated into doing that by a school coach. But the kid has only himself to blame in such cases. If he had surely made up his mind, he wouldn't have done it, but he was in two minds and may have been feeling pro Baylor at the time when he signed it, thinking he might change his mind. He was really vacillating in the end, which everybody knows.

On top of that, there are also reports/rumors that Briles repeatedly threatened to pull his offer if he visited Texas (well, he knows that if any recruit visits Texas and has Charlie "on his couch", he would lose the recruit - and he was THIS close to losing Hudson). Hudson visited without anybody knowing, but Briles did not pull the offer. Who knows what pressure talk from Briles was being conveyed on the last day by the HS coach!

This kind of stuff happens more often than we think, by the way.
