Texas Clinches Spot In Big 12 Tournament, Unless Weather Intervenes

With the conclusion of this weekend's play Kansas has a record of 7-13 in the standings. Kansas State stands at 8-13 in Big 12 play. Next weekend they play each other in the final conference series. That means that if all three games are played, one team will end the season with 15 losses.

Texas has a 9-12 record, with only the Baylor series remaining, the worst Texas can do is 9-15. The Longhorns have the head to head tie breaker over both teams. If West Virginia were to be swept by Texas Tech, next weekend, they would also have 15 losses. Texas has the tie breaker over them too.

Of course one win against Baylor, would clinch a spot for Texas.

So as big a miracle it would be for Texas to win the Big 12 Tourney and make a regional. It would take an even bigger one it seems, for the Longhorns not to make the Tournament.

Well, if that's all there is to it then we're in!

I hope the Horns make the tourney and play lights out. Unfortunately, based on the play this season, I have the feeling the Horns will be the last ones in and the first ones out.

Uh-ohhhhhh...Weather.com not looking so good for Lawrence, KS.

Friday: 40% chance of PM thunderstorms. Winds 10 to 20 mph

Saturday: 60% chance of afternoon t-storms, potential for severe. Winds 15 to 25 mph

Sunday: Mostly clear skies, 10% chance rain. Winds 20 to 30 mph

Friday may be a little questionable. Saturday has real potential for probs. Sunday looks solid for a double-header if a make-up is needed. Should be interesting day of Sunday baseball with 20 to 30 mph winds.

Or maybe for a change we could just win our own series and none of the above will matter.

Not sure where this rollin' ball of butcher's knives came from, but I said it in front of a big meeting in Minnetonka, MN a couple years ago and the room went dead silent. I thought they were going to escort me out to HR to have a discussion with me as I heard murmers of "What did he say?" So I looked at them and innocently said, "Ya'll don't say that up here?" with a smile on my face. Someone helped me break the tension by mentioning it's a Texas thing since they are all crystal clear on where I'm from when I go up to HQ.

Glad I didn't have a swig of coffee when I read 'rolling ball of butter knives'. Man, this season is killin' me...
