Texas Chili Parlor

The Chili Parlor is a great place to hang out before or after a UT game. They have cheap bloody marys and screwdrivers on the weekend. It has a cool "old Austin" feel. Very eclectic crowd.

The TCP used to be a great place to drink and eat. It has seen much better days. The "old gang" is long gone. It still has good Bloody Mary and Screwdriver specials. Since the new owners took it over a years ago, it has not gained much. Still a very comfortable place to knock down some beer. The food is struggling, including the chili.

This summer I worked right by there (well, still do, part time) and ate there for lunch a lot. It's definitely worth going to if you work there, but I could never see myself driving across town to go there, or even thinking, "ooh, I have a craving for Texas Chili Parlor."

I'd give it a passing mark, but it's not a place to take out of town guests or girls or parents or anyone to impress them.

I went there once at an off-peak time and thought to myself they must be starving for business, but then I noticed they are usually pretty packed with downtown worker types for lunch. Seems like lots of Capitol tourists are always in there, too.

Believe it or not. This place has one of the best cheesburgers in town. No fries, but you can request fritos.
They are probably way too crowded on gameday but its worth a look.
Do not forget the side of japs.

Don't EVER knock the Chili Parlor, *******. Magnums. N'uff said.

People who look for hot waitresses or big screen televisions when talking about bars should just go to their favorite Best Buy style sports bar and shut the **** up when it comes to real bars.

I literally had the WORST dining experience ever after the NC game.

We (group of seven) ordered our food and waited an hour. Nothing arrived. Finally the waitress said she was going to "find out what is happening." Then the manager came over and explained that there was a screw up, but our food would arrive in ten minutes. Ten minutes later some food arrived, unfortunately it wasn't our order.

Then our waitress hid out on the back and a new girl arrived. She looked strung out, admitting that she had just awakened from a hangover. She told us we had an "attitude" when we asked what happened to the order we gave the other waitress over an hour and a half before. We ended up walking out!

Bottom line - what used to be a decent place is now a piece of crap.

One of the few places close to the Capitol to get some decent grub. Nothing spectacular and certainly not worth making the drive from somewhere.
