Texas car title transfer question

I have a truck that I am selling in a couple of days, but I still have the California title. Do I have to have it transferred to a Texas title before I can sell it? Thanks!

No. You should be able to sign over the CA title to the new owners. They can then title the car (and pay sales tax) in Texas.

I just executed this type of transaction with a family member's car that was titled in AL in their name and then I re-titled in TX under my name. They just signed over the AL title to me.

make copies that you signed the title over.
I can't stress this enough when it comes to things that could happen down the road. If the person you sell it to doesn't go to the state to register/transfer it to their name, almost all things that could happen in the future will be traced back to the titled owner. Just an FYI. I see it all the time since I work in insurance.

Don't let them know of your very distant affiliation with Reggie Bush and the USC program. It will delay the transfer until the investigation is over. Just saying.

HatDaddy makes a good point.
In TX, there is a form from TxDOT online that a seller can fill out indicating that they have sold their vehicle and transferred the title. This helps avoids the problems that HatDaddy highlights.
Perhaps, CA has a similar form?
