to get to the next level (other than coaching expense wise)

we need to recruit less players who are jumping at the 1st shot at the NBA
we need to recruit more players who are jumping at the 1st shot at the NBA
we need to recruit players with more heart
we need to recruit players with more stamina
we need better conditioning
we need better a better coach

other?

I think we need a better coach, at least for the money Barnes gets paid. I understand the market is what the market is but he gets top 5 money for just top 64 performance.

1) Fans who quit wanting to fire the coach every time we don't win the national championship in a sport where there are 350 D1 teams, most of which are able to compete at a high level, unlike most other collegiate sports.
2) A rule change where the players can't turn pro unless they are 21 or have played through their junior years.

As Greg Davis is to offensive coordinators,
Rick Barnes is to head basketball coaches.

Not the best, not the worst, paid like he's the best.

Continuity in the style of play. I think more "stable" recruits would be drawn in if we had a system going. You can recognize teams like Memphis and KU and Duke in their styles of play. I just don't know which Texas team will show up any given game.

Less homerism from fans who ignorantly characterize unhappiness with the program as irrational.

More fans who understand a negative trend and won't ridicule questions.

Barnes actively recruits the one and dones so his theory has to be sooner or later several of the marginal one and dones will stick around for years 2 and 3 which will produce a winner when combined with that year's one and dones.

However, Joseph's unbelievable move this year blows that line of thinking out of the water. It is quite conceivable that Joseph isn't even drafted which will mean he will be a FA in a time of a NBA shutdown. Everyone makes mistakes, hopefully the kid will be able to eventually get something right.

He'll be a 2nd rounder. I doubt he would have entered if a team didn't make him a solid offer.

School's not for everyone. If being a free agent in an industry that will pay you six figures to sit on a bench is a bad thing, then sign me up.
