Sounds like Ruffin will start the season in the closer role. Not sure I like this, he is nails as a starter. Hopefully Augie/Skip get this one right.Starting Rotation ...

The left field crazies will love Cohl Walla in left. I need to score some bamboo and a Koala suit for later in the season.

BTW, taking hitting AND pitching into account, this may be the best Texas team in 20 years. Let's hope these guys can live up to the expectations. Only 23 days away !!!

I love the call for Ruffin to be the set closer. Every great team has a lights out closer. It is crushing for an opposing team to know the game is over if they are down going into the 8th or 9th inning. And that's the way it will be with Chance coming into the game.

I think Chance has the mentality to be lights-out closer.

But I do hate to lose his arm from the rotation.

Twenty-thee days ...

The only thing that bothers me is that I heard he wasn't excited to be in that role. IMO, you have to want to be that guy.

If he enjoys the spot I have no doubt he'll be effective.

I agree with a closer wanting to be in the role. But in college, where it is harder to get drafted in the closer position, it is understandable for pitchers not to be excited about taking the role. I'm pretty sure Austin Wood was not exactly thrilled about being a closer at first. So I would not be shocked if Chance felt the same way. But I really think closer is the perfect position for him and one in which he'll learn to love. I cannot think of another guy on the team who will more enjoy having the game on his shoulders on a routine basis.

I would rather keep Ruffin in the rotation and hope that either Workman or Dicharry could claim the closer role, but I have quite a few less rings than Augie. Jungmann/Ruffin/Green was a pretty stout rotation last year.

I'm anxious to see Moldenhauer pick up where he left off in Omaha last June.

I am anxious to see if Workman can recapture his form from early last season. He was very impressive early on.

Well, we saw a little different of a line-up than I anticipated on Saturday ... hopefully it was just an Alumni game thing.

We started Maitland and Ky Lusson in the corner outfield spots. IMO we simply CANNOT win with both of these guys starting. Too much of an offensive liability.

Bottom 3 in the order were Ke Lusson, Ky Lusson, Maitland. I sincerely hope that Walla takes over for Maitland.

FWIW, I liked Loy and Etier in the 1/2 spots. Up to the #8 hole we are pretty solid.

Texas plays in a big park. I dont expect to see lots of HRs until Omaha, and then for the announcers to be like "OMG, whats going on here, Texas isnt suppose to hit HRs."

I didn't like Chance in the Close spot neither but I thought again about the memories from '02 and from '05 and got more used to it. We get to see him a BUNCH more games in the Close role AND when he comes into the game, it'll be same same as when J. Brent and Huston came into games during their reign of terror.

You could sense the crowd's anticipation as they KNEW the game was ours. Simultaneously, the Texas dugout looked confident and you KNEW the opposing Team started mentally packing their gear.

As I told him, "who's under the bottom of the DOG PILE in Omaha?"

Let's roll.
