TEXAS' Athletic Dominance...in jeopardy?

We all know that TEXAS is really good across the board and if judge across the board against other Big 12 school....TEXAS would win every single time. However, individual sports have taken a back seat to other schools.

Here are the current sports and who dominates them:

Football - OU, with TEXAS being just a tad behind
MBBall - KU, with TEXAS far behind
Baseball - UT
WBBall - OU, BU
MGolf - OSU
WGolf - OSU
MSwim - UT
WSwim - UT
MTrack - UT, (in jeopardy of given way)
WTrack - A&M, (already have lost it)
MTennis - BU (lost it a while back)
WTennis - BU (lost it a few years back)
Volleyball - NU (UT gaining ground)
Softball - OU (UT has the titles and WCWS, but given way)

I have no idea how TEXAS tennis teams especially women, were able to drop off the top of the Big 12 so quickly and have not been back (with the exception of men's recent ncaa runs)!!! Is it because Baylor is recruiting out of the country? Should we start doing that? Women's Tennis coach is a stanford grad isn't she? She should know what it takes to be a NC contender.

Track.....both Men and Women will be hurting to A&M for a while unless we start outrecruiting them again.

Men's Golf.....how is it that OSU has 10 national titles and TEXAS has 2. Add to that....A&M has 1. There are many great golfers in this state...what is Fields doing for recruits not to want to come play at TEXAS.

Overall, TEXAS is 1st or 2nd in many of the Big 12 sports and that is commendable. However, sports that we used to dominate....tennis....track.....have taken a back seat and they haven't shown signed of recovering anytime soon.

Thoughts?

In mens tennis we finished Second nationally last year and in Final Four this year. Hard to say we have lost it a while back to Baylor.

I read your posts and as a knee jerk reaction tend to agree for the most part only because of pride and the fact that I'd love to see UT will 100+ National championships.

Football basically goes back and forth between UT and OU. We've had a few bad breaks but the two schools are essentially equal. Even with OU having more hardware.

Mens BBall - you don't watch basketball do you? Texas is neck and neck with Kansas. That's why the games are so epic between the two schools. Look to recruiting we have some good ones coming in.

Womens BBall - OU is **** without the Paris twins. Sherri Cole is a hack coach. Baylor on the other hand has done a great job building their program. They built up while UT and Tech were on the decline. Coach G will start recruiting better as the wins start rolling in and we'll be back.

Mens and Womens golf - Historically (and 2 National Championships in the 70s aside) UT has never cared.

Mens/Womens Swimming - no one will touch us except possibly after Reese retires.

Mens/Womens Track - Individual Championships aside, UT has never cared. Look to U of H and Arkansas for further SWC proof of this.

Mens Tennis - Historically we've won a lot but never made any noise. We never lost it to Baylor because we never had it. Michael Center is a Bad *** coach who has done wonders with this program.

Womens Tennis - This sport slipped and it's a little sad to see. I'd put the new coach on watch as one to replace in the next couple years unless improvements occur soon.

Vollyball - Coach Elliot is the real deal. Neck and Neck with Nebraska now. It's KSU that sucks.

Softball - This was never a sport we did well in. Connie needs to retire.

Soccer - finally the pieces are falling into place. We've won against a&m more than we've lost in the last 5-6 years. Sweet 16's are starting to roll in and I think we should get better from there.

Bevo...

I do watch basketball and Kansas is king........ TEXAS is no
where close to Kansas....the fact that we lose to the all the time in a neutral court should tell you something.

For the guys that said "then why is the dominance in jeopardy?".........individually, some sports have taken a hit like women's track and women's tennis and probably men's track after this season.

Overall as an athletic program TEXAS doesn't have to worry just yet about anybody in the Big 12......hopefully nobody will ever outclass us.

We are close to Kansas in men's basketball, but nowhere close to being neck and neck with them, as BevoMDCXVIII claimed.

After all, they are one year removed from the national championship.

We have nothing to show that we are "close" to the sucess of Kansas.

One Final Four is not good enough.......we have 3 big 12 championships compared to what......10 and however many tournament titles........

Yea, we are the closest to KU in the Big 12 but that doesn't mean anything considering there are many other teams in the nation that can go in that gap between them.
