Texas broke a three game losing streak with an 53-59 win over Tech on Wednesday. Meanwhile, OSU was losing their fifth straight to OU, 66-81. Texas moved into a tie for sixth in the Big 12 standings with Tech with both at 7-8. OSU dropped into a tie with Nebraska for 11th at 3-12. The last time Texas and OSU played, it was in Austin and Texas pulled out a close 63-56 win. Texas leads the series 24-9. OSU has won three of the last four games in Stillwater, including the one last season, a 73-72 squeaker. Texas is trying to finish at 8-8 and hopefully solidify an NCAA bid. OSU with a win, could be looking at an WNIT bid.
OSU is led by Toni Young (# 15, 6-2 Soph. F; 15.1 ppg) and Vicky McIntyre (# 34, 6-6 Fr. C; 10.7 ppg) in scoring. Lakyn Garrison (# 00, 5-5 Sr. G) is the top 3pt threat, having connected on 26 of 83 (31.3%). As a team, OSU is 59 of 216 (27.2%) from BTA. Kendra Suttles (# 31, 6-1 Fr. C) is 5-12 (41.7%) from BTA. Jenni Bryan (# 11, 5-9 Fr. G/F) is also over 34 % from BTA at 34.6% (9-26). Lindsey Keller (25, 6-2 Soph. C) is another post player capable of hitting the trey, having made 7-18, 38.9%. Tiffany Bias (# 3, 5-6 Fr. G) has taken the second most 3s for OSU but is not having much luck hitting them as she is 10 of 52 (19.2%) from BTA. McIntyre has gotten to the FT line the most. She has made 32 of 53 FTs (60.4%). Bias (25-30, 83.3%) and Suttles (9-11, 81.9%) are the only OSU players over 80% from the FT line. Precious Robinson (# 1, 6-0 Sr. F) and Keller are both averaging over 70% from the FT line at 73.3% (22-30) and 70.4% (19-27), respectively. Young also leads the team in rebounding with 8.9 rpg, tops in Big 12 league play and in blocked shots with 30. McIntyre is second in blocks with 29 and rebounding with an average of 4.8 rpg. Bias leads the team with 56 assists. Carissa Crutchfield (# 24, 5-6 Fr. G) is second in assists with 26. Young and Bias rank one-two in steals with 24 and 22, respectively.
Of the 12 players listed on their roster, 11 have played in at least 12 games with six having played in all 15 games. OSU has had ten different starting lineups in fifteen league games. Young, Bias, and Garrison all average at least 27 mpg. Eight others average between 20 and 11 minutes a game. Carolyn Blair-Mobley (# 5, 5-10 Jr. G) and Heather Howard (# 13, 6-3 Soph. F) are other key reserves for the Cowgirls.
Four Horns are averaging double figure scoring: Chassidy (18.0 ppg); Kat (11.5 ppg); Yvonne (11.6 ppg) and Ashleigh (10.3 ppg). Six Horns are in double digit 3pt attempts. Chassidy leads the way with 35-90 (38.9%). Kat is second with 26-76 (34.2%). Yvonne (19-41, 46.3%) and Tiffany (5-12, 41.7%) are the two players hitting over 40% from BTA. Chassidy (61-71, 85.9%) and Kat (28-32, 87.5%) are the only two Horns hitting over 70% from the FT line. Ashley, though has really improved her FT shooting as shown by her hitting 6-6 against Tech. Kat (7.4 rpg), Kristen (5.5 rpg) and Ashleigh (5.1 rpg) are the top three rebounders for the Horns. Texas has two players with 40+ assists (Yvonne with 43 and Ashleigh with 48) and two others with 20+ (Chassidy with 25 and Kat with 21).Three Horns set the pace in steals as Ashleigh and Yvonne have 24 steals each and Chassidy has 21. Ashley (42) and Kristen (12) are the top shot blockers for the Horns.
All 11 players on the roster have played in at least 3 Big 12 games. Eight are averaging at least 10 minutes. Four over 30 minutes a game: Ashleigh (34.9 mpg), 34.6 mpg), Chassidy (32.2 mpg) and Yvonne (31.3 mpg). Chassidy, Kat and Ashleigh have started every Big 12 game. Yvonne, Kristen, Ashley, and Chelsea have split the other starts with Yvonne and Ashley starting the most recent games.
Projected starting lineups based on the last game. Texas has had seven players start in Big 12 games. Horns have had three players start all 12 conference games while OSU has not had a single player start all 15 league games. Young (14 starts), Bias (14 starts) and Garrison (12 starts) have the most starters for OSU.[pre]Texas OSU
Kat (6-2) Suttles (6-1)
Ashley (6-4) McIntyre (6-4)
Yvonne (5-7) Garrison (5-5)
Chassidy (5-10) Young (6-2)
Ashleigh (5-8) Bias (5-6)
In the last game these two played, Young and Keller led OSU in scoring with 14 and 10 pts respectively. While Keller made 4-5 FGs, Young was forced to take 25 shots to get her pts on 7 made FGs. Those 25 FGA were almost have of the 62 shots OSU attempted. Chassidy and Kat were the leading scorers for Texas although neither had a good game shooting from BTA as they were a combined 3-9 on 3s. Horns will look to force TOs while closing the rebounding edge OSU had in game one (52-31). More involvement offensively from Yvonne, Ashleigh and Ashley would be a big help in pulling this game out. As was seen in the Tech game, the more Texas players get involved scoring, the easier it becomes for everyone to score. Horns will look to shut down Young inside and Garrison from BTA.
Big 12 stats through 02/23/11. Texas is 6-8. OSU is 3-12 in league play. Big 12 rankings are in parentheses. A tie with other teams is denoted by a (t)

OSU plays a different game than they did last year. They will look to slow the game down, work the ball inside to Young and McIntyre. Their three point shooting has not been at the level they were used to for the past four years. But they had games where they showed that they can run and gun. When they are hitting their threes and scoring inside, they are dangerous. They have lost at home to OU, A&M, Baylor and Kansas. This will be a tough game for the Horns. Tough defense inside and on OSU’s Garrison BTA and rebounding will help in getting out of Stillwater with a win to even their conference record at 8-8.
The game will be at 7pm. While there will be no TV, it is available online through the OKS website. It’s a CBS Sports.com online broadcast. If you are a member, you can just sign in. Otherwise, you will need to subscribe. In Austin, the game can be heard on KVET 1300 AM with the pregame at 6:45pm.
