Texas (15-7, 4-4) heads to KSU riding a 4 game winning streak that has evened their Big 12 record at 4-4. KSU (16-5, 6-2) has won five in a row and will be seeking to make the win streak six straight with a win over Texas. Texas leads the series 11-9. Since 2006, the teams have traded two games winning streaks with Texas winning in 2006 and 2007 and KSU in 2008 and 2009. Texas won last season in Austin 62-41. Texas is looking to inch closer to that coveted 4th place slot while KSU wants to take sole possession of 3rd place with a little help from A&M who is hosting OU, currently in third place at 7-2. Texas will also be looking to snap KSU’s 11 home game winning streak and five game Big 12 win streak. KSU is at 798 games won in program and seeking win # 799.

KSU does not have a separate conference stats page so Big 12 stats are based on KSU players in the Big 12 conference stat rankings.
KSU has two players scoring in double digits in league play: Brittany Chambers (# 2, 5-8 Soph. G) at 15.6 ppg and Jalana Childs (# 33, 6-2 Jr. F) at 14.6 ppg. Chambers leads the Wildcats in FG % (48-103, 46.6%) and 3pt FG% (20-53, 37.7%). Chambers is averaging 2.5 3s per game while Taelor Karr (# 12, 5-8 Soph. G) adds 1.5 3s per game. No KSU player is making at least 2 FTs per game to qualify for the league rankings. Chambers leads the Wildcats in rebounding at 6.9 rpg while Branshea Brown (# 34, 6-2 Jr. F) adds 6.3 rpg. Mariah White’s (# 22, 5-7 Soph. G) 32 assists tops KSU in league play. White also leads KSU with 13 steals in Big 12 games. No KSU player is listed among the Big 12 leaders in blocks.
KSU is carrying 13 players on their roster. Shalin Spani (# 23, 6-0 Sr. G) is out for the season while recovering from an ACL injury. Of the remaining twelve, Chambers, Childs, White, and Chantay Caron (# 11, 5-11 Fr. G/F) have started all eight Big 12 games so far. After Julianne Chisholm , (# 21, 5-11 Jr. G/F) started the first three league games, Karr has started the last five Big 12 games. Brown, Kelsey Hill (# 10, 5-5 Sr. G) and Alina Voronenko (# 32, 6-2 G/F) are the other players that have gotten into at least 7 of the eight games. Brianna Kulas (# 13, 6-0 Fr. F) and Stephanie Wittman (# 14, 5-9 Fr. G) have played in league games but not in the last three. Emma Osterman (# 20, 5-8 Jr. G, a JC transfer) who played in 13 OOC games, has yet to get into a Big 12 game. Chambers is averaging just over 37.5 mpg for KSU.
Texas is led in scoring by Chassidy (21.9 ppg) and Kat (12.0 ppg). Ashleigh and Yvonne add 9.5 ppg and 8.0 ppg, respectively. Together, they have 36 of the 50 3s the Horns have hit in Big 12 games. Seven Horns have gotten to the FT line at least 15 times, led by Chassidy’s 40 attempts. She has hit on 35 for a 87.5%. Kat matches that percentage on fewer mades and attempts (14-16). Kat is the leading rebounder at 8.4 rpg while Ashleigh (5.6 rpg), Kristen (5.5 rpg) and Chassidy (5.3 rpg) provide support. Ashleigh’s 32 assists leads four Horns with at least 13 assists. Ashley, with 29 blocks, is the only player in double figures in blocks. Ashleigh (13), Chassidy (11) and Yvonne (10) all have at least 10 steals. Every player that has played in at least six games has at least 2 steals.
Texas has 11 players that have played in at least one Big 12 game. The core rotation is eight players with one getting in for six games. Three starters average between 33 and 35 mpg. Three other players are between 22 and 28 mpg while two are averaging just under 12 mpg.
The starting lineup for Texas seems to change by one or two players each game. KSU has had the same line up for the last five games before this one. Below is the projected starting lineups based on the past game. [pre]Texas KSU
Kat (6-2) Caron (5-11)
Kristen (6-3) Childs (6-2)
Yvonne (5-7) Chambers (5-8)
Chassidy (5-10) Karr (5-8)
Ashleigh (5-8) White (5-7)
For KSU, the focus will be on stopping Chassidy, then Kat. For Texas, it’s Chambers who will be the main focus with Childs inside drawing attention from the Texas post players. Voronenko is the primary 3pt threat for the KSU posts. Since most of the Wildcat posts are going to be active in the paint, all the Texas post should get some minutes. Which ever Horn is guarding Chambers will have to not leave her open behind the arc. Like ISU, KSU has players that will hit from BTA, but Chambers has been the most proficient for the Wildcats.

With both teams putting up over 17 3s a game, this could turn on which team is hitting from BTA. Both teams are close in how many times they get to the FT line and how many FTs they make per game. Texas does get more shots off but KSU has a better % from the field. Both have an outstanding scorer. Texas has Chassidy and KSU has Chambers. Supporting scorers will be big in this game. If Ashley and Kristen can continue to provide a combined 15+ points inside, the Horns will be difficult to beat. KSU will be another team that looks to slow the pace down and run a halfcourt game. Horns will continue to look to run whenever the opportunity presents itself. Having a consistent scoring threat inside really makes things easier for the Horns’ perimeter players. All four posts for Texas are good passers and can find the open shooter if the D collapses inside. KSU is a team that doesn’t seem would be that good at getting steals but they get over 7 a game. One thing they haven’t excelled at: blocking shots. As a team, they average less than 2 blocks a game. This should be a battle inside as both teams are close in total rebounds.
The game will be carried on regionally on Fox Sports KC. Nationally, the game will be carried on DirecTV - Ch. 672 and on Dish Network - Ch. 453 for those of you that have those providers. KVET 1300 AM will carry the radio broadcast with the pregame at 6:45 pm.
