Texas has played A&M close in College Station although the Horns have lost six straight by double digits to the Aggies. A&M is having their best start at 15-1 for the season.

Two other starters, Adaora Elonu (# 6-1 Jr. F) and Syndey Carter (# 4, 5-6 Jr. G) come close to double figure scoring with averages of 8.7 and 9.7 ppg, respectively. Off the bench, Maryann Baker (# 15, 5-10 Sr. G) provides 9.3 ppg. Sydney Colson (# 51, 5-8 Sr. G) is the fifth starter and usually is at the point. She leads A&M with 19 assists in league games. Carter and Adrienne Pratcher (# 32, 5-7 Soph. G) share second place in assists with 6 each. Five Aggies have taken at least seven 3s with Carter’s 4-11 (36.4%) tops in both mades and attempts. Baker’s 57.1% (4-7) and White’s 42.9 % (3-7) are the percentages on the team from BTA. As a team, A&M’s 66.2% from the FT line is average. Adams (13-17, 76.5%), Carter (7-8, 87.5%), Baker (6-8, 75.0%) and Karla Gilbert (# 34, 6-5 Fr. C; 3-4, 75.0%) are the best on the team from the FT line. Adams (8.0 rpg), White (6.7 rpg) and Baker (4.3 rpg) rank 1, 2, & 3 in rebounding. Three others are averaging 3.7 rpg each. The Aggies top the Big 12 is steals with 39 total. Colson is the best at 3.0 spg. Pratcher’s 2.0 spg are second.

A&M has fourteen players that have seen action in Big 12 games. Twelve have played in all three league games. The starters, Elonu, Adams, Carter, White and Colson average between White’s 30.0 mpg and Colson’s 20.7 mpg. Baker, Gilbert, Pratcher, and Kelsey Assarian (# 40, 6-1 Jr. F) are the key reserves. All four average double digit minutes between 11 and 17 mpg. The other players average no more than six minutes a game.

Texas has four players scoring in double figures in league play: Chassidy (20.0 ppg), Ashleigh (16.0 ppg), Kat (11.0 ppg) and Yvonne (10.0 ppg). Chassidy has been the one that has been the most likely to take that shot from BTA. She has hit on 30.0% (6-20). Kat (4-10, 40.0%), Yvonne (2-5, 40.0%), and Chelsea (2-4, 50.0%) are averaging over 40% from BTA. Chassidy has gotten to the FT line the most in league play: 12-14, 85.7%. The Nash sisters are perfect from there in Big 12 games with Kat going 7-7 and Kristen 6-6. Kat leads the team in rebounding with an average of 10.3 rpg while Ashleigh adds 8.7 rpg. Three others average at least 5 rpg. Ashleigh’s 10 assists tops the team while Chassidy has 4 steals to top that category. Ashley has 11 blocks while Kristen ranks second with 3.

Nine Horns have played in the three league games. Chassidy, Kat, Ashley, Yvonne, and Ashleigh have started all three games. Kristen and Chelsea are the others in double figure minutes. Except for Ashley, who has found herself in foul trouble the last two games, the starters are averaging from Ashleigh’s 39.3 mpg to Yvonne’s 32.7 mpg.

Projected Starting Lineups:

[pre]
Texas A&M

Kat (6-2) Elonu (6-1)
Ashley (6-4) Adams (6-1)
Ashleigh (5-8) Carter (5-6)
Chassidy (5-10) White (6-0)
Yvonne (5-7) Colson (5-8)
[/pre]

Kat will likely match up with Elonu at the start. Elonu has quick hands and finds open teammates well. Elonu will have to guard Kat out on the perimeter while Kat will be more concerned with Elonu’s inside game. Adams versus Ashley will be a key to the game. Adams can shoot from BTA and has an outstanding inside game. With A&M’s guards able to penetrate well, if Adams goes outside, one has to wonder if Kat will switch defensively with Ashley if possible. White will be the tough matchup for the Texas guards. Whoever matchups with her will need to be aware of her ability to score from BTA and inside. Colson does not put up big scoring numbers but only because she is busy setting others up. She is capable of scoring big numbers if left alone or by penetration.

Texas will have to handle the pressure that the Aggie guards will use. They have been successful in forcing TOs by the bunches when facing the Horns. This has led to easy shots while Texas has worked to get shots off. If the Horns can break through the pressure, they will have their shot at getting open shots. Winning the rebounding battle will help to offset TOs forced by the Aggies. Ashley will need to be careful to stay out of foul trouble as Adams is adept at getting her shot off against taller opponents.

Unfortunately the aggies will take this game for the 9th straight time and send Texas to 0-4 in conference.

We just aren't really good against good teams.

DANG?!! Between the AAS pre game,A&M web site and the 0-4 future, we might as well not even play this game cause it seems like they win all the way around.

yeah, too bad they have to play the game.

Horns' chance to win will depend on keeping their TOs down and in running their offense to get their shooters, especially Kat and Chassidy, open. Plus, Horns seem to play better at College Station than at home against Aggie. I would be really worried if the game was at home.

I'm checking in w/my Hornfan BFFs!! Who else is out there that's going to listen to the audio and view gametracker?

I have my chips and salsa w/ a twist of lime and I'm ready to get this party started!

Here we go LONGHORNS, HERE WE GO!!

Horns with 3 TOs in first 5 minutes. A&M has a couple. Still haven't found a way to stop Adams and Horns can't get the ball to go in.

Sounds like A&M is winning the battle of the boards right now. Getting too many second chances for the aggies.

16-12 aggie with just over 11 minutes in the first half. If I got the count right, Horns have 4 TOs to A&M's 1.

18-16 aggy. Chassidy has 12. Some of the other Horns need to step up and make a shot.

So why have three calls been changed to give aggy possession after the ball initially given to Texas?

Please sit A.Gayle.
We are a much better team, when she is not in the game. If you want to play 2 post play A.Hartung

Horns 25 aggy 24 with 3 and a half left in the half. Other Horns are starting to score. I would like to see Anne Marie going against Adams. I think she's strong enough to hold her ground inside.

Damn. gave up a gimme at the end.

Still, the best half so far in conference for the Horns. This team isn't ntimidated by the aggy physical play.

Got another 20 tough, rough minutes to go.

I would like to see AT and A.Gayle sit on the bench,so they can think about what they are doing in the game.
Thank God we have Fussell. She should not be out performing our veterans, and she is. I dont get that

so, I know I'm not the only one here. Anyone have comments so far? I know I talk to myself a lot but would really like to read others on here.

Very nice to have the lead at the half. With Yvonne and AG yet to score, and Kathleen on just 5 pts, it could be a great second half if these three come to life.

only 7 TOs for the Horns. aggy with 5. Unexpectedly, Horns have five steals with A&M only having one.

Almost time for the second half to get started.

Yes, Chassidy was impressive, as usual. This team has a lot of talent and I hope some others step up in the second. Agree with Babhorn that we are not intimidated by the Ags though I expect them to push hard to start the second half, hope we're ready!

Nervous as can be watching gametracker. The key to taking the lead was to start winning the rebound war. Someone other than Chassidy needs to step up. We have all of 2 points in the paint. This would be a huge win. Hoping the team can pull it off, but so far this season against tough competition we have been a first half team. Would love that to change. Keep turnovers down, get the rebounds, and shoot a little better. Sounds like defense has been pretty solid. A signature road win against a top 10 team would help us hugely come selection time. Half way there !!
