Make sure you read the comments. Add some of your own if you care to. It makes Texas appear to these writers as if we actually have some people who care about basketball. I say that having not made any comments of my own, so hypocrisy, thy name is SL Xpress.

I love how Parrish undresses a Kentucky fan regarding Barnes turning down the Kentucky job --- which he did, regardless of how Kentucky fans continually try to spin it.

Surprised the Louisville and Florida aren't on the list.

I also thinks he contradicts himself when he cites the tempered passion of OSU and Texas fans as a benefit, but has a struggling Indiana on the list (one could argue at the expense of Florida.)

If you read closely, he said he had Louisville at No. 11. Texas actually has had more consistency at the national level than Florida over the last 20 years. But if a Gator wanted to argue that Florida is a better job, I wouldn't have too much to fire back with.

I think Texas is in a better recruiting area then Florida- were any of those guys on the national title team local?

That being said- it obviously hasn't been hard at all for Billy D to get talent there, local or not so maybe it's a non-issue. I don't know if Barnes has to go as far outside his back yard, as often, as Donovan does. Minor quible though and it's not like we don't go out of the area for talent either.

I could be very wrong but it seems to me that recruiting local talent isn't nearly as important in basketball as it is in football (though the definition of "local" may be stretched for basketball too). Thoughts?

Of course we're a top 10 program. Rick Barnes has put us on the map. A pollster earlier this summer said something about how he had no problem putting texas in the preseason top 10 because "Rick Barnes has proven time and time again that he can make Texas contend." When we're contenders every single year, no matter who we lose, we're a top 10 program.

It always amazes me how much apathy we show for such a great basketball program here at Texas. Everyone drools over the Red River Shootout or games like OSU in football, but I have to actually go out and remind people that they can buy UCLA tickets.

For me, it's not a question of IF we win a NC under Barnes, but WHEN. When it's all said and done, I expect Barnes to be our DKR on the court.

I'd say it's borderline right now. Good arguments both for and against.

In four years, there won't be any arguments against.

Not sure there are any college basketball programs that have more momentum than Texas right now, both in recruiting and national appeal.

Texas Basketball is getting there. There has been more and more student involvement since my freshman year in 04/05. It's not there yet, but it's getting closer to getting the respect it deserves on campus.
