Texadelphia

At least twice a day I have a craving for a Texadelphia. I wish someone would open one in North Carolina! :)

Best place in Austin to kill a hangover. The location on the drag is much better than the one in North Austin (Arboretum area).I recommend the Philly cheesesteak with the hickory sauce and jalapenos-- but I'm just a simple Texas boy...

The (chile con) queso at Texadelphia is probably the only queso in Austin I truly crave from time to time. It is spicy and thick and gooey and just a MUST at Texadelphia. The salsa is kind of crappy, really. It is more PACE or something than really anything good. The chips are usually warm and thick and crispy. The cheesesteak and chicken cheesesteak sandwiches are excellent, although both scare people off with the thought of onions and whatnot all over them. It is thinly sliced meat on a chewy roll of bread, melted cheese, and sauteed onions, as well as whatever else you want. It is EXCELLENT.
The other sandwiches are above average, but are most comprised of bread, which means you will be hungry in an hour after eating them. The beer comes in pitchers if you wish, and they have self-serve softdrinks and tea and lemonade and water. They also have a location in the UNION UNDERGROUND. Just follow the signs. It is under the Union and it set up sort of like a bar past the pool tables and whatnot. Yes, they do serve alcohol under the Union. There are televisions in the one under the union, so you won't miss out on any sports action there. The one on the drag is older and more often patronized, and you will always see fellow HORNFANS in both.A Texas Tradition, every person eats at Texadelphia at some point during college, and usually upon returning.Hook 'em.------------------

Personally I prefer the cheesesteak with mushrooms (hold the onions) and the mustard blend sauce. Great place to eat, probably one of my favorites in town.

You should see the Texadelphia next to Mama's in Houston. The cheesesteaks seem to be the same, but they've made it into a huge sportsbar as well.[This message has been edited by BigTime (edited 03-28-2000).]

No matter where you get your Cheesesteak, here's what you need to know:Order the cheesesteak all the way -- that means meat, onion & peppers (sweet or hot). If you take it Philly style, add ketchup and Cheez Whiz and you are good to go.In Austin & Round Rock, I prefer Delaware Subs for the best Cheesesteak in town. This is the closest you're going to come to something from Pat's in South Philly. I have a jar of Cheez Whiz in my fridge that I drag with me every time I go to Delaware subs (usually for the Thursday special). If you're ever in Philadelphia, make sure you go to Pat's at the south end of the Italian Market. It's the original and THE BEST!!

Dude, authentic or not, I'll pass on the Cheez Whiz on my cheesesteak.

It appears Texadelphia has sone into fullscale expansion. Thankfully, the Round Rock location is perfect me at lunch.

A bunch of my friends in Houston hit the Texadelphia there when they get homesick for Austin. This restaurant is one of the things about Austin I enjoy the most.

By the way, I will give Delaware Subs' cheesesteak a try. I'm not a big fan of their subs, but I'll give the cheesesteak a serious tasting.

UTEE....

the only reason the drag location is better than the arboretum location is due to the plethora of 18-21 year old chics that continuously walk by as you try and take a bite of your food.

wait, you're right. The north location sucks.

Yeah, I don't give a crap if they pour on the Cheez Whiz in Philly, I'll pass on that. However, the "homemade" mustard you can get extra is the ****.
