Great little interview with Elon Musk re: the Tesla electric car winning Motor Trend's Car of the Year award.

Tesla is going to produce at least 20,000 cars next year and employs 7,500 people.

These are interesting times we live in.

I would love to have one! Did you by chance look at another article about the C1 motorcycle thingy? How cool is the whole gyroscope concept that keeps it upright even in a collision?!

If that thing gets to below 15k I am so getting one to get to work. An enclosed motorcycle with gyroscopes and safety, I like.

I like the Tesla a lot however the price point is still very high. When the price point comes down (either via technology changes or recovery of RRD) then I think it will have a chance to really take off.

I can imagine it has to, utmck. I wonder if a motorcycle rider would ever feel comfortable on one of those.

Regarding price points, the spokesman for the C1 said that in 2014 when it comes out the price would be mid 20's but drop to about 14k later on. I wonder if a similar drop would happen.

Yeah, the motorcycle is really an awesome thing, too. I could see that taking off in a city like Austin.

We're on the cusp of momentous changes.

Those projections seem pretty ambitious considering that economists are projecting only a 0.0-0.3% decrease in employment, a 0.0-0.2% increase in inflation, and a 0.2-0.5% decrease in the rate of economic growth from 2012 to 2013.

Think how those motorcycles could impact a city like Austin. You can park, what? 6 of them in a normal parking space? So you mark off special parking spots, reserve them just for those motorcycles, and charge a fee for the parking passes. All of the sudden, the city is generating a lot more money. If they become popular enough, they could be given their own dedicated arteries through the city, and a great mass of people could move through much more quickly and agilely. Just thinking out loud.

Tell me more about the motorcycles. If you get hit by an SUV do you still die? I ask because I grew up on motocross but we sold all but one after my dad had a pretty bad accident. I keep thinking about getting a dual purpose but I have seen too many deaths and near deaths to make the purchase.

Uninformed, there are some great links about them. They have air bag systems, reinforced doors and a metal frame. It is o a gyroscopes and does not tumble over. It's far safer than a motorcycle as you are familiar with. There is video of it on ice. Again, the gyro's keep it's center of gravity. Pretty remarkable thing.

0-60 in six seconds. Looking like up to 200 miles on a charge, average. That costs you, according to a couple of websites I found videos at, 1.00 or below. If they find ways to put panels on it for smaller things like turn signals, radio, etc...bonus.

Would it be how I would travel to Dallas or San Antonio? Nah, doubt it. But it would be how I get to the store, to work or to the Alamo Drafthouse to catch a movie. I would not give a damn what the price of gas costs for a car.

Yeah, I would just have it for an in-town vehicle. I can zip all over Austin without ever really getting on I-35 or Mopac or Loop 360, though I wouldn't be afraid to in one of these. Just try to avoid them as much as possible.
