The below link talks about Terrell Holloway and how Texas is one of his 3 choices if he doesn't stay with IU. Looks to be a solid PG for the class of 08' (4-Star on Rivals). Does anyone know anything about this? He signed with IU, is apparently trying to get out of it with the Sampson ordeal and although Texas wasn't on his original list it looks like now we may be...

IU Recruit

I call BS on this one. Holloway may ask Indiana to release him, but as far as I know, you can't put an "out clause" in a letter of intent. The text of the letter specifically states you are bound to the school, not the coach, and states that coaches leave all the time.

The letter is automatically void if the school has committed a recruting violation that makes the recruit have to seek reinstatement by the NCAA student-athlete reinstatement staff.

I agree that there probably are not any "out clauses" in these LOIs, unless things have changed drastically in the NCAA's policies regarding this type of thing. But I'm pretty sure we'd have all heard about it if that were the case.

With that said, it's entirely possible that whoever wrote that piece misinterpreted whatever he/she was told about why the kid is trying to get out of the letter ... not an "out clause" in the letter, but an "out clause" in NCAA rules.

I can imagine a recruit wanting assurances from a school that the school will release him from a commitment in the event the coach leaves, but I can't imagine that assurance going into a letter of intent.

The NLI webpage "Overview" concludes this way:

No details on Terrell Holloway. I'm not thinking much of it at this point. They have some really hard decisions to make as it is, without adding more players to it.
