Not much time to enjoy the big win over Maryland with Tennessee's mass chaos coming to town. We'll need to really pay attention to the scouting report details... patience and ball security being major points of emphasis. Against their type of chaotic pressure, you need an opportunistic attack and not get caught up in the constant run and gun pick-up game... push the ball when the numbers allow it but also make them defend in the half court. Controlling the tempo is paramount against them. They'll be hungry for a win having lost @Vandy.

I am excited and a little apprehensive about this game. I need the WBBnut to come on and guarantee a win.

In all honesty, Tennessee has no defense. Their coach simply hopes to get more shots up and that at least one more of those shots goes in than the other team. Vic’s defense-first approach is a nightmare for her. As long as we don’t have an unexplained cold shooting night, we should be fine. Teams tend to shoot at their average or better against Tennessee. Oldacre and Jones should have good games, but in Tenn’s simplistic approach to defense, those two will be the main (only) focus. I would not be surprised to see us hit several threes like we did with OU for the same reason. Watch for Tenn to cross the line and then frantically throw one up. If that happens, Texas wins. If Tenn figures out how to get into the paint, it will be a close game.

I know it sounds like a cop-out, but refs will play a key role. We don’t do well when refs try to make it a no contact sport which happens to us all the time. The home court advantage will be very real for that reason alone.

OU’s style is similar to Tennessee’s and we kept them off the 3-pt line and forced a ton of turnovers and won in Norman with Booker only scoring 8 points. Tennessee desperately needs a win and we need to make sure it’s not against us.

They average about 94 points per game and 14 turnovers so I’m sure Vic’s defense will be geared to holding them well below their average points and forcing 20+ turnovers.

Luckily, we have proven to disrupt three point teams and high scoring teams in general. It’s kind of Vic 101

Tennessee lost to land thieves by one, by two to LSU, and Vanderbilt by one. All good teams. So they have the players yo compete. Tennessee’s top 4 scorers are guards. So it’ll be a guard-centric game. With Horns having a better inside presence. Their fifth top scorer is a 6’-4” forward. Tennessee will want an extremely fast paced game. And so will Texas. In this game, Horns defensive intensity should be the difference. Lots of shots and turnovers. Should be a terrific game to watch. Cant wait. Horns by 9 is my fair and biased guess. Hook ‘Em

The last time we met the Lady Vols (they kept Lady in their name) we were in Knoxville in 2021. I was there. We had the game in the bag with a couple of minutes on the clock. Three horrifically bad calls by the referees and we lost in OT. We took 23 shots from the three and made 7. Rori notched her first double double. Tenn beat us in the paint. I promise you, Vic has not forgotten
