Tenn/Vandy

Yea, very different....benches behind the goal, thats really the only difference that directly affects the players, and it affects the coaches more than anything. And it would be a helpless feeling as a coach in the first half with your team 90 feet away from you. THe court is also raised, like what Minnesota has. Very different, cool though.

It's awful.

I don't know where I've been, but I didn't understand their setup was so unique until this year's buttwhipping of Kentucky. Texas even played up there in a home and home series under Penders.

It is one of the most unique home court advantages I've ever seen. For coaches like Gillispie and Pearl, it has to be a complete nightmare, although at least this is Pearl's third visit there, so he understands what he's getting into to some degree.

i liked the raise court thing... benches behind the goal, not so muchy.

Minnesota's setup is tons better. The teams sit behind the sidelines like in most places, and the head coach sits on the court on a stool. Plus, the seats at UM are much closer than at Vandy. Look how far away the student section is from the court at Vandy. From their vantage point, you cannot see whether a shot on the far side of the court is a three-point attempt.

As unique as it is, it's just as ridiculous.

Actually there is not such a thing as being too unique. Unique means "one of a kind" - so it's an either/or thing, not a matter of degree.

Sorry for being such a nerd.

Here's what my style guide says. I tend toward purity on this issue, obviously. Not that anyone cares.

USAGE There is a set of adjectives—including unique, complete, equal, and perfect —whose core meaning embraces a mathematically absolute concept and which therefore, according to a traditional argument, cannot be modified by adverbs such as really, quite, or very. For example, since the core meaning of unique (from Latin ‘one’) is ‘being only one of its kind,’ it is logically impossible, the argument goes, to submodify it: it either is ‘unique’ or it is not, and there are no stages in between. In practice, the situation in the language is more complex than this. Words like unique have a core sense but they often also have a secondary, less precise (nonabsolute) sense of 'very remarkable or unusual,' as in : a really unique opportunity. It is advisable, however, to use unique sparingly and not to modify it with : very,: quite,: really, etc. Often, a writer can instead make accurate use of : rare,: distinctive,: unusual,: remarkable, or other nonabsolute adjectives.

slx, i think you need to change your user name to Pompous A-hole. that way...nobody gets surprised when you share your opinions. that's a win-win.

So, my question is...If Vandy holds on and win our game this weekend, will we move up to #4?

We might move up with a Vandy win but I find the grammar smack to be more intriguing at the moment.

And my other question: couldn't they put the team benches on the side and move the cheerleaders under the baskets?

Bad fast break decision by Vandy...they need to slow down.
