The Lady Vols are next on the Horns' schedule.
They are 6-1 with a 5 game winning streak going into a 12-11 game with Middle Tenn before coming to town.

The game will be next Sunday (12-14) at 1 pm here in Austin.

December 14 is the date that we REALLY get to see where this program is.

I know this is a pre-season game, but it is so important to have a good showing in this one. We need to be tough down low as Tennessee is pretty deep at the post position now that they have their entire team available to play.

I have watched both teams this year. Mark my words, Texas will take down Tennessee. I see Texas being a final four team this year. All of the pieces are in place. You have a fantastic guard (Cortijo), great shooters (Nash, Arririan), and big bodies down low. I don't see a team, other than UCONN, that is better than Texas. A&M is way overrated. UCONN is simply incredible this year.

I hope to come back to this post at the end of the year and say "I told you so...."

The Lady Bears are a year or two away at this point. Griner is going to be special, but we need to find some outside shooters. We sure do miss the days of Emily Niemann.

Latara Darrett was a big loss for Baylor. She had such great potential and could drain the 3. Her off-court antics really did cost the Baylor program a player that, IMO, could have been on the all Big 12 1st or 2nd team.

Texas is so far ahead of schedule! I think these young ladies know that they are building something special and have confidence. A win over Tennessee would do so much to bolster their confidence.

Would love to see Bone in burnt orange next season to fight it out with Griner down low.

Mulkeyway....would LOVE for you to come back and say "I told you so"...we would welcome that!!

But as for Emily Niemann, you can blame your moniker namesake for that...she would not have left if she had been accepted for who she was by the "bible-thumper".

BBV Horn - I know Emily and you are wrong about that statement. Kim Mulkey is very accepting. She hangs out with gay men and women throughout Waco and includes them as some of her dear friends. Our national championship team had 4 girls who had girlfriends (one was a very prominent starter). Enough said. Emily wanted to move to California to be with her girlfriend.

I support Texas, but I have to call out incorrect statements like that one. Please do your research before criticizing our coach. Yes, Baylor has intolerant people, but so does every campus.

I think Tennessee is one of the teams with which we don't match up well. They have too many big bodies, and if our 3 post players get into significant fould trouble, Pat will have her gals crashing the offensive glass.

If we don't put a body on someone, Coach G will be livid.

Of course, our girls remember the beatdown they suffered last year in Knoxville, so that has to help. Plus, I think our presses and traps may lead to some easy buckets.

Be on the lookout for Kelsey Bone in the bleachers. I know nothing, but I wouldnt' be surprised if she comes to town to check out this marquee matchup. Kelsey, if you or your Mom are reading this, come take a look at what Coach G has done in her second year!

You could really help solidify our inside game once Ashley and Aubrey graduate after this season.

They have five post players from 6-3 to 6-6 with three at 6-3, one at 6-4 and another at 6-6. There's a couple of others that may be post players but could be combo Fs.

Horns counter with four posts, two at 6-3 and two at 6-4, and two combo F/Gs at 6-2 and 6-1.

They have numbers but a couple of them are just coming back from knee injuries. Horns are going to have to play smart, tough and get plenty of help from Aubry and Kristen. Expect to see Kat inside at times. Boxing out will be paramount with the guards getting a lot of rebounds.

The problem for Tenn is that there is one Sr. on the 12 player roster. Everyone else is either a Soph or a Frosh. They are young and the backcourt is going to have trouble getting the ball inside. Tenn will have to handle the Horns' backcourt to have a chance to win.

GO HORNS!!

I've been out of town for a week (to NC) with the passing of my grandma

Anyway, i have a lot of reading to catch up on here...but, in the mean time.....I cannot wait for Sunday's game!! It's going to be a nail-biter!!!!!

I am all for a little friendly banter back and forth between rivals, but to make a statement that Emily left Baylor because Mulkey would not tolerate having a lesbian on her team is a very serious accusation that one needs to be able to back up with facts.

Mulkeyway, I enjoy seeing your posts on this board. I love my 'horns but I have a healthy respect for Mulkey and the Baylor program.

I claim to know nothing about the circumstances surrounding Emily's departure from that program, but to imply that Mulkey is of the same mind as Rene Portland is a dangerous step to take.

they are winning ugly. Shootng poorly from the field (40%) and from BTA (27%) but holding opponents to even lower %s FG=34% & 3= 26%.

Bjorklund and Cain are just coming back having played 2 and 3 games coming to Thursday's game. Cain is hitting 50% from the field while Bjorlund is 2-8 from BTA. She is supposed to be their best 3pt shooter. Probably just rusty right now.

If you have DirecTV you can catch the Tennessee game tonight for a sneak preview. Based on Summitt's comments in her press conference she has settled into her starting 5, which consists of 4 freshmen (Bass, Johnson, Stricklen and Cain) and a sophomore (Baugh). Johnson already seems to be the "go to" player for Tennessee this year.

found the channel...

wow, i hope our ladies don't get into foul trouble against TN's trees inside! They look pretty big.

tennessee was winning comfortably, but MTSU isn't going away. score is 55-44 tenn.

tenn is much bigger than MTSU, but it doesn't seem like they are really killing them inside. maybe because MTSU is sagging a bit on defense to clog up the lane.

tenn is playing very aggressive defense. but i think the horns will be able to match that aggressiveness. i hope we take it to their point guards. Bass does a nice job running the point for tenn, but she's a freshman. she isn't always under control, especially on the break. and you can really see a difference in tenn's offense when Bass comes out, and Manning is running the point. i hope we take advantage of that.

just managed to get to see the game on justintv. MT is very small compared to Tenn. Looks like Tenn is opening up the score.

Nice summary , tott10. I think the Horns will present a lot of problems for them. We match up in speed and quickness. I think the Horns will have an excellent chance to get a W Sunday.

Well said..

Stolen from the SummittThe Link A Vol view of the matchups:

Breaking down starting lineups:
Tennessee's starting lineup could be completely random/wrong, so I'l just use the starters from last night's game:
C: Vicki Baugh vs. Ashley Lindsey-Slight Advantage Tennessee. Both are long and lean posts. Baugh is a better athlete but Lindsey is a good defender who can also score inside.

F: Glory Johnson vs. Earnesia Williams-Advantage Tennessee. Williams is a nice player, but Johnson is a better athlete and better overall player.

G/F: Shekinna Stricklen vs. Kathleen Nash/Erica Arriaran-Draw. It'd be slight edge to Texas is Stricklen hasn't been hot lately, but Stricklen's play should cancel out Nash/Arriaran. Nash is a good scorer and also has great size at the G/F spot. Arriaran is a good shooter who can put up a lot of points.

G: Angie Bjorklund vs. Brittainey Raven-Advantage Texas. Raven is a great goto player, all american candidate. Bjorklund is a good player still getting into the mix.

G: Brianna Bass vs. Carla Cortijo-Advantage Texas. Cortijo has been great so far this year. Bass has played well too but this will be her first test against a great team on the road.

Bench: Advantage Tennessee. Texas has a great sniper coming off the bench, whether it be Arriaran or Nash, and they'll have 2 good freshmen in Fonnette and Anderson, but they don't have the depth at every position Tennessee has.

I expect that this will be a close game. Texas has more experience but we have a significant height advantage and have better athletes. I'll be a homer and predict a 67-62 Tennessee win.

Johnson and Stricklen are the X factors for me. Johnson is not only a great athlete, but she is a great basketball player and will scrap for every loose ball. We better put a body on her of she will kill us on the boards...she is relentless and doesn't take a play off.

Stricklen is also quite the athlete and plays the passing lanes very well. We cannot be soft with our passes or they will end up as layups on the other end.

We are going to see some full court pressure...we have to be ready for that.
