I'm not surprised. They were hitting at an unusually high rate on Sunday. Baylor is the best defensive team in the nation. But boy oh boy are they gonna be in trouble next year lol
Kim Mulkey was not joking when she said she had never seen TN run a half-court offense set. TN is discovering what TX found out against UCLA. You cannot rely on defense, intensity and rebounding when playing against a team with equivalent or better athletes. And then there is Griner. Mulkey schooled Warlick like Close schooled Aston. This is what a well-coached offense looks like: nearly double the amount of assists to turnovers and TN shoots less than 30%
Tree you do realize that if you give almost any coach d-1 elite level talented seniors and put them against freshman and Sophs that's what the score would look like. Mulkey didn't "school" Warlick, her team is just flat out better at every position. Tonight had nothing to do with x's an O's. Look for next years return matchup in Knoxville to have a transposed score.

Not entirely true. Griner went 14 minutes without a basket as a result of TN making a smart but risky defensive adjustment. Mulkey went to plan B on offense, even took Griner out for a sizeable chunk of the second half. TN, like Texas, barely has a plan A on offense (Rebound, run, pass around the perimeter and chuck in an ill-advised pass to a post-player) let alone a plan B. As talent differentials even out amongst elite programs, coaching becomes much more important in terms of both x's and o's and player development. I would say Simms and Simmonda are equal enough in talent - both are juniors; one has just been much better coached and set up for success in a schemes that maximize her talent. Next year in Nashville, it might be a little closer, but even without Griner, Baylor takes TN comfortably.
Tree you can't possibly believe that. First off, Simms and Simmons are not equal in talent and they don't even play the same position. Os is by far the best point guard in the country. And even if they were equal (which they're not) baylor still outmatches them at the other 4 positions. Coaching may matter in a game like uconn vs bu but not tonight. This game was over before it started. Baylor made no adjustments, because their defense carried them the whole way while Tenn couldn't buy a bucket. Baylor didn't have to change anything on offense. It was either a griner/pope layup or a Hayden 3. Nothing at all fancy about that. This was just the classic case of good vs waaay better.
As for next year in Knoxville, Tenn brings in a top 3 recruiting class with the best freshman in the country and they'll be the senior and jr laden squad vs a young and in experienced baylor team. If its a 10 pt game id be shocked. I don't think people pay very much attention to the reserves that baylor puts in the game, they're not very good at all so they will need a heck of an off season.
I agree with UTfanforlife. Tennessee and Baylor are both well coached. Holly Warlick hasn't been around for 35 years and not picked up some good X's and O's. Tennessee will beat Baylor next year with little doubt. We saw Saturday and at times tonight what talent those Tennessee freshmen and sophomores have. They were freaked out in the first half by the Griner-Baylor mystique and got into a hopeless position. If they play Baylor again this year, I predict a much closer game.
Had Texas played respectable against UCLA in HOUSTON and against Tennessee, Texas may have had a chance. As much as it pains me to say this, peg a big "L" for our Horns.
