TEN Top 50 wins

Subject to change if A&M keeps losing, but right now Texas has TEN wins over RPI Top 50 teams. To put that in perspective, last year three teams had 10 Top 50 wins or more - UNC (11), UCLA (10) and Ohio State (10). Last season, Texas went 2-6 vs. the Top 50. Now they're 10-3.

Texas's 2003 record vs. the Top 50? 8-6.

Obviously this doesn't translate to NCAA success. Florida didn't have 10 Top 50 wins the last two seasons. Iowa was 10-5 vs. the Top 50 two years ago and then lost to Northwestern State in the first round. But Iowa got a 3 seed in 2006 because their NC SOS was terrible (127). Texas doesn't have this problem. But the numbers should translate to seeding, and anyone who doesn't have UT as a 1 seed right now after their win tonight is simply crazy. It's not just that UT is one of the most deserving teams. They are one of the best now, and "best" is the criteria the committee says they'll use.

This team deserves even better than being subjected to a one seed in Phoenix with UCLA as the 2, but the solace is this may be the best UT team ever when winning away from Austin. I can't remember another Texas team, even in 2003, with the intangibles this team does. They're not as talented as other UT teams, even maybe the one two years ago, but they simply know how to win better than any UT team I can recall. Great stuff.

Oral Roberts was in the top 50 for much of the year and dropped out a few days ago. Hopefully they can move back in to the top 50.

Also, agree that this team does not have the overall talent that the Elite 8 team had a couple years ago. However, this team has absolutely superior PG play with Augustin...That makes up for the talent gap.

There really isn't that much difference between the top 6 teams.
Tennessee, Memphis, UNC, UCLA, Texas, Kansas are all pretty much even, IMO. I do think Texas is playing the best ball in the nation right now.
