Temple, TX Tailgate

Celina plays in Temple the first weekend of football. So, we are having our customary tailgate party. I have a couple of questions...

1. We will be pulling a travel trailer, so I can haul food if necessary. However, if I want to buy food there, where is a good supermarket?
2. What would be a good first weekend of football menu? We will have 50 people (kids and adults).

Thanks in advance,

Mark

PM Texanne. She is a big Temple Wildcat fan.

I am sure she can help you with anything you need to know.

go to the HEb at 31st and the loop in temple. or, you can go in to downtown belton to the meat market.

do not go to wal-mart for any reason here and do not go to the HEB in belton.

Belton has a meat market downtown?

Is it the Nemecek's in West type of meat market, or just a normal butcher?

I can have a stove, a grill, and possibly a smoker.

It is a butcher. also, on the southbound service road of I-35, there is a butcher, around the 57th st. exit.

However, you will want to note that their business hours are random. might want to call first. if i see the place in the next few days and catch the name of it, I'll post it here.

The meat market in downtown Belton is L&R. Their beef & pork sausage is definitely in the top 5 I have ever eaten, and it seems to be a crowd pleaser. It comes in approximately 8 inch links. Great for tailgating.

Thanks, guys. That is some great, great info. I will be doing traditional tailgate stuff I guess...hot dogs, brats, sausages, chickens, etc.

I'm assuming "no alcohol" a the HS stadium?

I agree with scottsins. I will jump in here are a fellow Temple resident. The HEB on Adams would indeed be VERY close, but DO NOT go there. Don't even be tempted. Go to the HEB on 31st. It is essentially due south of the stadium and NOT far at all.

It is tiny, cramped, crappy, and more than that... the meat section is just precut meats from the 31st street store. They don't have a butcher or a real meat department. It is ok to run in and pick some prepackaged stuff up, or even to grab an onion or a potato, but you do NOT want to do any major shopping there, esp. meat.
I can't say I NEVER go in there, but living closer to that store AND to the store in Belton, I still go to the 31st street store unless I am RIGHT by one of the others.

I would get a person to come early and make a trip out to Green's Sausage House in Zabickville, TX. That place is greatness.
