This may have been answered in another thread and if so, apologies for repeating, but about when do they start assembling the bleachers? Any word on if it will be the same amount as last year or will they reduce the number?

They'll be the same as last season

It is usually done the month before and I believe this year they will be a little smaller then last year and about the same size as they where the year before.

93,000 permanent seats and 4,000 south endzone bleacher seats for 97,000 total seats. The 2007 SEZ bleachers could hold 6,700

DKR will be 5th largest college football stadiums in the country. Michigan (107,501), Penn State (107,282), Tennessee (104,079), and Ohio State (101,586).

Included in the approved expansion plans from the 90s is bowling off the SEZ which will raise permanent seating to 115K. I suspect that phase is a good ways off.

Ags better start repainting those lines even closer together. They are going to need 15K more seats.

Seriously, about the Ags... I understand that they have to decide before the next major expansion whether they should just bulldoze the whole thing (except "the Zone") or start a refurbishment project that would be nearly as expensive as building a new stadium.

They have an east and west side without luxury boxes, and structurally not ready for luxury boxes. At some level, they must be aware that just building a new "zone" would be a huge Aggie joke- the 100k stadium with luxury boxes only in the end zones.

So if it makes financial sense to bulldoze it, why not start? Well, the next decision is whether to build it at the same site as Kyle Field, and keep "the zone" (and be under the gun to build as much as possible for the next season), or to start over at a new site.

I doubt they are considering bulldozing Kyle. With all due respect to TaylorTRoom, Kyle Field does have 48 luxury suits on the west side between the 2nd and 3rd decks. I have no idea how "Luxurious" they really are though.

I hate to be so critical of aggy as they have never done anything to anyone...or on the field for that matter.

However; I clicked on the above link and found myself looking at the photos of there, ahem, facilities. The players lounge looks like something out of NASCAR. (No offense to NASCAR or there fan base.) It just proves the point made over and over about the overall thoughtfullness that does NOT go into anything they do.

Done in your best Clayton Williams voice:
'Heck, let's just get us a double wide and throw some pleather couches and jerseys in there and call it a players lounge.'

Why do they make themselves such easy targets? And they wonder why people don't wish to play for them.

I am STILL scratching my head.

Sorry. I extrapolated commnts by Ags that updating their stadium would be ridiculously expensive into speculation that thy would have to consider new construction instead.

If it takes a commission of 16 to choose a new dog for a mascot, how many people will it take to decide to expand Kyle field? It'll never get done.

I hate to beat a dead collie, but it's a slow day here.

Upon further review, the above picture is nothing more than an upscale Dairy Queen.

OK, moving on I am.

Aggies cant even sell out now and there talking about expansion. Somebody post that picture where the fans in the upper deck are running from endzone to endzone.

Wow i dont know how to post it as a picture, but here is a video of the aggie game where the migrated from one end to the other as the team went down the field. Why could they do this? Because the seats were empty. And the person who made the video tried to make it sounds like it was a good thing

As I understand it, aggy's problem is that Kyle's electrical and plumbing is such a complete mess that it might be cheaper to bulldoze it and build it again from scratch. Given their lack of sell-outs, maybe they could do like Stanford and build a smaller but nicer stadium? Then paint the bleacher seats 6 inches wide....

As a historical note, back in the '60s it was obvious that (pre-upper deck on west side) that Memorial Stadium was not big enough. A lot of campus leaders looked at UT's constrained space, and all of the acreage dedicated to the stadium and parking, and proposed that the stadium be torn down and a new one constructed at Balcones in north Austin.

DKR and Erwin were really against that idea, so of course it didn't happen. Instead, the first upper deck was constructed. Of course, now everybody knows that it's a bad idea to have stadiums off-campus, and i think Baylor's long term plan involves building a new stadium on campus (someday).

An Aggie friend explained to me yesterday that tearing down and reconstructing their west side upper deck (and leaving the base level, which evidently is structurally independent) is a real option.

Another option discussed in the '60s was to build a new UT stadium out on 290 towards Manor, and possibly put a dome over it.

BTW - this is classic sig material:

It can't be said enough, but why would the idiots at A&M want to expand their stadium when their current one is already too big?

We all know about them drawing the seat lines closer together so they can say they have a bigger stadium than us, but even the stupid Aggie leadership can see how idiotic it would be to add 10,000 more empty seats to the already 10,000+ empty ones that are usually there, right? Right? Oh never mind, we're talking about the Longhorn obsessed Aggies here so I should know better.

So the temp bleachers still are going to be placed so that the bottom corners of sections 1 and 32 are screened off from half of the South endzone?

The bleachers will be smaller this year so that they will not obstruct the views of any section 1 or section 32 seats.

I could be wrong, but it is my understanding from previous foundation letters that the temp bleachers will be smaller and more like they were in 2006 than they were in 2007. pic below is from 06.

2006

The SEZ bleachers will be the same size (4k) as in 2006. Last year it was supposed to be ~7k to make up for the seats in the NEZ lost to construction. However, it ended up being closer to 6800.

I haven't seen anything announced for the semi-permanent bleachers going in next off-season for 2009 and beyond, but I'd expect it to be closer to 4k than 7k.
