As education reporter at the Temple Daily Telegram, I used to have to cover the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor. I can't tell you how many times I typed Mary Hardon-Baylor. Thank God either I or an editor always caught it.
I've also typed "pubic hairing" instead of public hearing when I was covering the city council. My Freudian slip really shows when I type. Thankfully, that little typo never made it into print.
Another reporter at the TDT was not so lucky. She was doing a story about an even that was going to give out free items of clothing. She typed "T--shits" -- and it made it into the paper.
Given the level of acceptance of poor grammar and construction in our Tweet/All-thumbs/Facebook world of communications these days, this will be a very short-lived item, for sure.
As a long time employee of the Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts I will say: it happens. Now, the time that blue zinger went out with the from field being "From: Bob Bullcock" was a pretty special situation -- not that Bob minded.
It did happen. I read it on yahoo news last week.
Administration caught the error after mailing out the invitations to the students' families. It was promptly corrected and the invitations re-sent.
