Tell me about Lenovo desktop PCs

The ThinkPad reputation speaks for itself (and has for years), but I don't know a whole lot about their desktop systems. I'm finally fed up with Dell, and if the ThinkStation/ThinkCentre reputation is anywhere near as good as the ThinkPad, I am going to make the jump.

The Thinkpads are designed by former IBM engineers in North Carolina, Lenovo desktops are "designed" in China. I don't think they have anything to do with each other.

I have one and purchased two more last year for family members. I don't think desksides in general are nearly as complicated as laptops so there should be less problems. All three that I bought are AMD dual core and XP. Nothing fancy and used for general stuff. I had one small issue with the diskette drive port and they quickly sent me a new motherboard. No issues recommending them. They also have a surplus site that has reduced prices. The only issue I had with them was the order entry software they used, On the surplus site they could sell the same machine more than once and you didn;t really know if your order would ship for a few days. Some of the integrated utilities that come with these machines are very nice for recovery etc.i

Few computers are designed in the US anymore. They are all designed by ODMs in China. It has become far cheaper for Dell, HP, and even Apple to leverage Asus, Mitac, Foxconn, Wistron, etc... You are pretty much getting the same hardware regardless of vendor these days. The difference between them is OS (in the case of Mac), Industrial Design, and overall customer experience. Don't buy a Lenovo thinking you are getting something substantially different from your Dell.
