Tell me about Coppell

We have Coppell on the short list of Dallas burbs since we'll be house hunting soon. It seems to have a nice mix of parks, homes, schools and the like, with a small town feel to boot. Thoughts?

Sister in law lives there and loves it. Wouldn't want to live anywhere else in the area. Seems to have really high end and really low end homes. Nothing in between. Close to shopping and centralized location

We were also recently looking to at relocating to Coppell. Check the websites greatschools.net and schooldigger.com. The schools are rated very high. There is not much new construction in Coppell unless who can afford the 500K and up house. It is centrally located with easy access to 35/635/Bush/121. The houses we looked at 250-350 range appeared to be mostly built in the mid to late 90's. Most of them needed some updating unless you are into vine wall paper and gold fixtures.

You might also want to look at Flower Mound. Just up the road and just as good schools!

I think homes in Coppell will appreciate nicely because of the schools and the fact the city is relatively close in, convenient to the airport, and practically built-out.

Coppell was battling Dallas over a development planned around the lake by the old power plant. The property taxes would go to Dallas. But Coppell would be responsible for schooling the children and would likely have to build new schools. Irving would be responsible for providing police and fire to the development.

Pretty cozy deal for Dallas. Essentially, they were able to annex the land the power plant was on because the right of way for the power lines provided a narrow but contiguous stretch of land.

Well since you threw in Frisco why stop there and go north to Prosper. There is a neighborhood just East of 380 and Preston that has some pretty nice homes for sale in $300 range. Just minutes from the tollway and Stonebriar Mall and shopping. Not to mention Deon Sanders!!

coppell is a good burb. the school system is the draw. ranked in top 10 in the state in most publications that rank that stuff.

if you're going to live in dallas burbs, you can't do much better than coppell.

frisco, prosper and those areas are too damn far from dallas. coppell is about as far out as i'd want to go.

I'll provide a dissenting opinion just on how the town felt. My parents moved there for about 8 months after living in San Antonio for 15 years and then moved to the Phoenix Metropolitan area after living in Coppell. My parents hated it and I hated being there. It was what we called "capitalism-communism". Everything looks the same, the houses, the shopping centers had to have the exact same style of brick, there is no room for diversity of style.

There isn't a lot to do that I found interesting, but if you want the suburban life, Coppell is pretty much exactly that.

you just described every suburb in dallas. dallas prides itself on conformity. all the burbs look the same. all the houses look the same. all your strip mall and their restaurants look the same.

but that can be said about most burbs in any major city in texas.

but yes, coppell is boring, and that's putting it nicely. it's a great place to raise your kids, and not much else.

The city of Coppell has very strict building codes. Yes all the buildings look the same but go live in a city that does not give a **** about who builds what. Ill take the all the buildings looking the same any day!

^^^I'm sorry, but you can have individual style that's still built well. Maybe it's because I grew up in a neighborhood in San Antonio that was built before suburbia (1950/60) really took hold and each house was different. Then I've lived in the Hyde Park area of Austin for 4 years and where my parents live in PHX at least has about different house designs and floor plans (despite all having the same material).

When I lived in Coppell and was home for the Christmas break I was getting the mail and as I was walking back to my house I literally walked into the wrong house that had the EXACT same design as ours, the only difference being the color of the paint right below the roof. I'm sorry, but that is just not something I appreciate, you can still care about the way something looks and value individuality and uniqueness at the same time.

Coppell is a reasonable distance from Dallas. And once Carrollton gets DART light rail that option will be nearby.

It's very close to one of the area's other major employment centers -- Las Colinas. And it's also close to DFW, which is a plus for people who travel on business frequently.
